Selling my house - is it worth putting a new bathroom in

Currently doing a few touch ups before putting my house on the market - we have been Redecorating anyway over the past year . All nearly finished but I feel the bathroom really lets the house down .

It a white suite so not like it’s a dodgy colour but it’s an old enamel set with the original 19.50 white tiles with a black border .
Do you think it’s worth me putting a new bathroom in prior to putting the house on the market? Does it add that much value? (Or take it away really)

I just feel like the rest of the house is modern and “renovated” but the bathroom is just , well , a bit meh.

I can’t decide what to do .

Help!

Make sure it's really really clean, get going with the bleach and scrub everywhere. Some nice towels, posh looking handwash and maybe a plant, then you're done. I like the sound of your bathroom actually. Good luck.

I agree it depends on price of house. In our first house sold many years ago. The bathroom was the most dated worn out room. Estate agent told us new bathroom wouldn't help. It did. But depends on how much you need to spend.

Agree with the majority. Fancy soap and towels would be my only expenditure! It sounds very nice actually.

If the rest of the house is renovated I'd leave it. Someone will put one in to their taste if they wish.

Itscoldouthere · 12/09/2020 12:49

I'd leave it, a friend of mine spent about £3000 doing up a bathroom (that was only about 10 years old) kept the bath but changed the shower over, new sink, toilet, tiles etc six months before selling her house, first thing the new owners did was replace the bathroom and kitchen.
Money wasted really.

Nyclair · 12/09/2020 17:04

Not worth it. Let the buyers redo the bathroom to their taste/need if they want.

I'd leave the bathroom, although I might accessorise to make it look even more 1950s

Sitdowncupoftea · 13/09/2020 17:31

Definitely not. I sold a house last year. It had a new bathroom fitted not to sell. The purchaser ripped the bathroom out as they didnt like it. I would not put a new bathroom in.

Bougie · 13/09/2020 17:52

Depends on your area and the type of buyers. Round my way there are a lot of young trendy couples all into renovating 1950s furniture etc. they would love your 1950s bathroom. But if prices are not high in your area, then the high cost of a new bathroom might put people off. So long as your bathroom is clean and in good condition, I think you should leave it.

ChilliBeanSauce · 13/09/2020 18:29

Leave it, buyer may have different taste and it sounds quite nice !

TheHighestSardine · 13/09/2020 18:41

I definitely wouldn't.

We've had three houses go up for sale in the last few months nearby where people have recently refurbed with new kitchen/bathroom, sold.

New owners on all three have trashed the kitchen and bathroom for their own. So we've had about a year and a half of skips in the road full of them.

Ah thanks everyone for all the replies !

I think I will just leave it as is then and just give it a really good scrub clean.

Thank you !
