Grin please

I’m not keen to post a picture until the sale goes through but the house I’m buying has a log burner in a fireplace however it’s all apart from the glass front boxed in, I’m looking for inspiration to open it up and either put it back to brick, part brick and plaster or all brick. It’s circa c18 cottage.

Also a cottage built in the late 1800s. This is from when we literally just moved in, so we’ve now got a chunky, rustic wood shelf in the middle of the brick on the front and a big basket of logs at the side now.

That’s gorgeous! I was looking at the rustic wood shelves on Pinterest for ideas. Thank you, live your burner, the one in the house is very modern looking so looks practical but not so authentic.

The rustic wood is actually not wood at all! It’s hollow, some sort of heat resistant material.

TipsySquirrel · 12/09/2020 08:53

@BluebellsGreenbells Ours is real wood and definitely not hollow. It’s a heavy bugger.

@FAQs ha, I want to try and give our cottage a bit of a modern makeover so I keep eyeing up the modern wood burners but can’t justify the expense when the old one works perfectly well.

She’s talking about a wooden mantle shelf - not the wood round the edges

here's ours (well two-thirds of it anyway :) )

@BluebellsGreenbells yes, so am I. I’m aware of what I have on my own fireplace.

1780 weavers cottage. I've only been in the house a couple of months. No experience using a wood burner and there is a strong whiff of smoke if you get close to it. Will my house smell like an ash tray when I use it?!
