How concerned would you be about a house that jas sold every 2-4 years since 2007?

Going for 2nd viewing today. It looks nice, well maintained, nice road, no obvious sources of noise, 4 bed, east london.

I'm worried that nobody seems to stick around for any period of time.

Hmmmmm??

DSIS used to live next to a house like this, it was known among the neighbours as the jinx house. They didn't tell her this until she'd bought the house next door, mind.

The issues for the sales were:
Owner 1: domestic abuse
Owner 2: serious injury requiring move nearer support
Owner 3: financial issues.

It was then bought as a BTL. It looks like it's stable but in the first 4 years:
Tenant 1 left after the boiler was codemned and carbon monoxide levels were getting dangerous
Tenant 2 died in the property, their body was found by police
Tenant 3 has only been there a year.

It's a perfectly ordinary house on a regular estate in a small town. All of the other houses are either BTL or have been owned 10+ years. It's really odd and quite unexplainable.

I was less surprised when I read east london. London is very transient (I live here and have for almost 20 years so myself not included Grin).

700 is a great price for a house with a 100 ft garden though!

Has the price gone up on every sale?

I think it's worth knocking some doors and asking the neighbour's.

@Lucindainthesky

First thing I thought was haunted. There's a house near us like this, often changing owners. The last time it was listed on rightmove I had a look and there were several crosses and horseshoes nailed to the exterior. Make of that what you will!

Our house was like that until DH bought it in 1999. It sold every 2 to 7 years from the 70s (built 1935) when the original owner's daughter sold it. No idea why. It's a small terrace but none of the other houses on my street have had so much turnover. Lots of people stay for decades because it's a nice neighbourhood close in to the centre.
My only thought might be bad drains... check the council records if there was anything mentioned in the first inspection. A house built in 1920 across the road from us had a note in the initial record and their drains are still dodgy.

I would keep popping round at all times of the day and weekend /weekdays. See if you can suss out what's happening at different times

It could also be nothing and just people selling due to various reasons such as divorce or needing to move to a different area or just not liking the house for no specific reason.

We bought our house last year and although there is nothing wrong with the house or neighbours I would put it up for sale tomorrow if my DP would agree to it. Just don't like it and there is no specific reason as to why. Although in our case we are only the third owners and the people we bought this house from had been here good 40 years.

It could just be a complete coincidence that people have got divorced, wanted to downsize, changed jobs etc, but every 2-4 years since 2007 is a bit too much of a coincidence.

Since you live close, I would snoop at various hours of the day if you can. Have a chat with Doris and see if she gives away anything, mention you noticed it has frequently been up for sale. If she's anything like my Grandma she'll love dishing any dirt to anyone who'll listen!

Is there anything on the map that could possibly cause issues? A pub, school, even corner shops can be a magnet for anti social behaviour. Look at the catchment area for schools too, if there aren't any great ones in the area people may relocate to be closer to nice schools.

The first thing I would do is pop round to Doris' and see if you can get anything out of her
