Just that really. I know grey has had its moment to shine but just curious to know what people think will be the Next Big Thing or if you could change something about the decoration in your house, what would you go for? Looking for inspiration!

I think dark, muted aubergine with brass accessories will be a thing. Maybe a wall, or possibly kitchen cabinets.

I painted a bedroom wall indigo four years ago so was ahead of the curve for that one!

scrivette · 08/09/2020 20:56

Everyone who is having kitchens at the moment is having navy, dark green will be next in the shaker style.

I am hoping for something different, a corten theme so hoping that doesn't become the next big thing.

RubyViolet · 08/09/2020 21:24

Black powdered finish bathroom taps, shower heads. Black Criittal style Shower doors.
Pink retro bathroom suites, must be high quality porcelain.
Bottle green kitchen units.
Enormous kitchen tables instead of kitchen islands.

RubyViolet · 08/09/2020 21:26

Kitchen larders are most desired !

HarrietM87 · 08/09/2020 21:30

Navy kitchens are actually probably on their way out, all the recent “influencers” are doing theirs in green. Similarly Crittal replacing bifolds started a while back and is becoming mainstream. Parquet floors/herringbone patterns are big. I think those crackle glazed square tiles are starting to replace boring metro at last.

Next trends - I think more natural and dark wood (as opposed to painted wood) furniture will be big.

Most things mentioned on this thread are 2018 and 2019, people doing them now are behind the trend.

Anyway it doesn't matter if you love it. If you slavishly follow trends and fashion and don't love it then you will want to change it quickly.

If you love it then it really doesn't matter trendy or not, as you will always live with it happily. I had a pink kitchen in 2004 and I'll be having another one soon, I will always love pink whether in fashion or not.

thisstooshallpass · 08/09/2020 21:55

@BabetteAteOtemeal

Navy ain't the next big thing.. its the current thing! Next big kitchen trend will be powder pink units and colour clash I think.

Current trends: PANELLING EVERYWHERE
Herringbone flooring
'Railings' painted skirting and door surrounds
A shit ton of indoor plants
Prints that say things like 'YES!' and 'DREAMER' in naice typography
Lockers!
Brass and gold accents, natch
Horizontally half painted walls
Yellow velvet sofa
That fucking la redoute rug

'That' rug 😴
HarrietM87 · 09/09/2020 09:38

If anyone is on Instagram, TheFrugality/Alex Stedman’s house is like a shrine to current trends - living room with velvet sofa and gallery wall, navy study with navy woodwork, green kitchen with herringbone parquet floor.

To be fair I think it’s really hard to avoid trends as that’s what’s all over the shops!

Kamma89 · 09/09/2020 10:24

Agree with @flirtygirl

Most things mentioned on this thread are well established (plants, navy, marble, geometric, brass, pink, critall, move away from islands etc) Grey has been "over" for sooo many years. I do wonder though if I'm biased as live in London.

Never go with a trend. Pick what you like. We went dark green & marble a few years back in the kitchen & its popping up all over the place now. My family begged me not to Grin I love it & don't care if it looks dated because a few influencers & ikea mock up rooms are doing the same.

Alongcameacat · 09/09/2020 10:32

What rug?

I keep seeing a different rug on Istagram. I liked at the beginning but it is everywhere and now I know it is a gifted item so even the influencers don’t buy it!

fiorentina · 09/09/2020 10:32

Modern House on insta is good for ideas.
They are selling the properties but there are a good range of modern and refurbished period houses and you can see trends on there.

7Days · 09/09/2020 10:37

I've got the best tip for figuring what is coming in, as opposed to what is in.

Look at ads. But the background for them. If it's a curtain ad, look at the floors etc.
It works !

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 09/09/2020 12:32

When weren’t houseplants a thing? I’ve always had them!

HappyDinosaur · 09/09/2020 12:38

Patterned tiles seem to be really popular at the moment.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 09/09/2020 12:42

I’ve looked on The Modern House Insta thing:

Lots of grey
Horrid black shiny geometric shit
Lots of rooms that look like my cousin’s house in the 1970’s
Full of uncomfortable horridness.

Like this:

What would you say are the current trends?
QuentinInQuarantino · 09/09/2020 12:48

I have that rug Blush

Incoming trends apparently are a return to earthier tones like terra-cotta and natural wood instead of painted Wood. Dark Green taking over from navy.

Alongcameacat · 09/09/2020 12:49

QuentinInQuarantino Which rug? I’m dying to know!

Alongcameacat · 09/09/2020 12:51

Found it. Wow. It has its own istagram page!!!
