Bigger Kitchen

Im stuck on what to do. Please tell me what you would do with the attached floorplan for a bigger kitchen space but still want a separate dining. There is currently a wall between the kitchen and dinning room. I want to knock it through and move the dining to the lounge but that means you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the dining. I would also like to retain a utility room but will be happy with a smaller one.

It’s not clear what the current arrangement is. Is the dining separate now? Thanks f it is I would knock through to the dining area to make a larger kitchen and make the lounge a separate dining. Room as young e other living room.

I can’t tell if there are any windows to the side.

If there are, I would make the kitchen, the utility and half the lounge the new kitchen, the other half of the lounge the utility and keep the dining off the entrance hall.

If not, you’d have to see whether you can get enough light in there.

I would knock through the kitchen and the living room to have a big space across the back of the house.

Do you need a formal dining room? If so I would make the study the living room/ snug and make the other two rooms study/ dining.

I'm assuming your drawing is roughly to scale as all your reception rooms look roughly similar in size.

Thanks for your responses. Yes, the drawing is roughly to scale. If possible, i want to leaving the living room and study as is. Some of your ideas has got me thinking though

@fennel, yes its completely separate but would it be weird walking through the kitchen to get to the dinning room?

Not so much weird as annoying. I grew up with a similar arrangement and would never again have a movement corridor across the centre of a living space.

Why not move the kitchen to where the dining room currently is, dining room to current lounge, and lounge to current kitchen?

Your island is quite far from the other work surfaces. I think I'd put the 'kitchen' to the front and have the sitting area to the back. You're putting a wall & door to the utility I assume?
