Rope banisters

Has anyone bought a rope banister kit and had them fitted? I need a bannister to grab because of my weak arm and I have found someone to fit it but I have to buy the stuff. I am not entirely sure if I have measured correctly. I have measured from where the other side bannisters start and finish and used that measurement- is that right?
I am nervous to hit the "order" button on the site I have found in case I have measured wrong and end up with metres of rope I cannot use!

I’ve only seen them installed in shops and restaurants. They look cool! Is the rope so expensive that it’ll make a massive difference if you get a metre too much?

Are you positive you want a rope banister? I stayed in a small cottage this year with steep stairs and a rope banister and found that if I grabbed the rope to stabilize myself I would fall sideways because of the "give" in the rope. Certainly put me off buying one.

They move when you grab them. They also get grubby. A decent handrail is far better.

I hate the hard bannisters without spindles and I can choose how much "play" I want in the rope so I will go for none, so it will be reasonably stable, better than what I have now which is nothig on the side that has no spindles. It is the measurement I am not sure about.

Get the installation company to measure it? If it’s taught then they should have some idea.

Like the others I really wouldn't if you want it for safety/stability - technically I'm sure you'd get used to it but i could see visitors taking a tumble.

There must be something hard you can get put in that will work better for you?

My apologies OP, it's what you want and sorry if I was instantly dismissive.

No worries @Mutunus 😊 Rope is a better aesthetic than hard rail IMO.

I'll phone the rope company tomorrow and get help from the professionals. Don't know why I didn't do that first really!

Thanks all
