Alternative to Amtico/Karndean

Can anyone recommend a decent LVT which isn't Amtico/Karndean? Preferably 'wood,' 4.5mm thickness.

I've ordered samples of both, and really like them, but I'm not sure whether a cheaper alternative would be just as good?

Particularly interested in how well it lasts as we wouldn't be looking to replace for while..

Floorify

Floorify just a suggestion as I haven’t had it myself but my friend just laid it in her kitchen and it looks good

Ployflor Camero.
I've had it in the hall for approx 10 years, no scratches (dogs & kids).
I'd say there is very very slight shrinkage, but I wouldn't be aware of that if I hadn't recently had the kitchen done in the same - so have old and new in adjoining rooms. Other than that, which tbh I don't notice, it was just on close inspection when the new was laid, I would say the 10yo tiles in the hall look as good as the new tiles in the kitchen.

Although having googled it is only 2mm thickness.

We have Moduleo flooring in the kitchen which has been down two years and has been absolutely brilliant. Very similar to Amtico, loads of options for finish.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 28/08/2020 08:28

My Polyflor Camero looks just as good as my parents Amtico even if it is not as thick. Still worth a look.

Polyflor Expona Beveline. We have it in our kitchen. Cost £17.99 psm.

Mosaic123 · 28/08/2020 09:04

Polyflor Expona mango oak. They put it in restaurants and shops and it says you can drive a a lightweight vehicle over it!

We tried to get Polyflor last year and found them completely disinterested. We couldn't find a local stockist so contacted them and they said their local rep would be in touch. He never was, despite us trying 3 times. Another time, we were going on holiday near the location of a showroom listed on the website, so we went to look. The showroom owner was great, but pretty annoyed because he's been trying to get Polyflor to remove his details from the website for 3 years because he hasn't actually stocked it since then!

We talked to some independent flooring guys about our options and they said that Amtico and Karndean are the top of the market, in terms of much thicker lvt, scale of choice and how realistic is looks. Amtico is solely concentrated at that top end, but Karndean developed it's Knight Tile range to compete with the cheaper end of the market.

Karndean Knight Tile is basically the same spec as Polyflor Camero and in the places we looked it was a very similar price.

If you're anywhere near Evesham, a trip to the Karndean Design Centre is great, they have their whole range installed on the floors and as full size samples to take away.

Ooo, lots to look at- thanks everyone!

@HooseDilemma we could get to Evesham pretty easily. Will definitely pop in!

There are lots of brands of LVT of which Amtico and Karndean are the best known in the UK. They are not the be all and end all. The thickness of the wear layer is the important thing for most domestic flooring - that's the layer that covers the pattern and stops it from deteriorating.

A good flooring retailer will stock several brands. Some are usually used in commercial applications, but there's no reason you can't fit them in your home. The cheapest Amtico, Spacia, is around £35 psm and that's without fitting.
