Air quality - main road

Hello :) I’m tempted to rent a place on a main road, the traffic is fairly constant on a junction and it’s two lanes each way (major junction). The flat is really nice and only affordable due to where it is. There are loads of air purifying machines online you can buy.

So... does anyone know... if you’ve tried one of these machines, how effectively do they clean the air? Do they leave a traffic smell still?

Please help! Guidance online is a bit mixed and I don’t know about the smell issue!

Bumpety bump, bumpety bump!

I have an air purifier in my DS's bedroom as he has asthma and we are between some very major and busy roads. I don't notice traffic smell day to day - only when I come back from somewhere else that's more rural. I've always lived around here so maybe used to it. No idea if the air purifier helps but it makes me feel better. The filters are surprisingly expensive to replace.

You can get sensors / monitors but when I looked into them the good ones seemed to be over £100 so I figured that money was better spent on a purifier. There are numbers on it but I don't really know what they mean. It goes mental when we're cooking downstairs so it's not just a traffic pollution thing.
