Market slow, will we ever find our new home?

We sold our house (In the North East) a month after it came onto the market in June

Our chain is ticking along and we still have not found a house that we like enough to buy. Pulled out of the house that we put our own house up for sale to buy because it only had a yard and not a garden despite the house being perfect for us.

Found another house that we really liked and placed a best and final offer on which the owners will not shift on price so we have ended up walking away (it’s still on the market).

Think we are going to have to end up moving into rented or with in laws for a short time which really wanted to avoid and take advantage of the stamp duty break.

Anyone else feel fed up and that the market is sluggish?Literally Just 3-4 properties a week coming up in the area we want to be in.

Not sure whether to just stay put for now?

It’s so hard, we have recently put our house on the market, our main concern is finding somewhere we want to buy, I would be prepared too pull out if we couldn’t find a suitable property, it costs too much to move doesn’t it? Don’t give up hope OP, I hope you find somewhere you like soon.

If you feel you can cope with being in rented or with the in-laws, I’d do that. You’ll be in a great position to offer chain-free when you do find something.

I wouldn’t stay put for now as, when you do try to move again, you’ll need go through the whole rigmarole of selling and buying again.

We are feeling the same but part of me waits with eager anticipation to see when my dream home will come on the market. At the moment there’s slim pickings. I haven’t given up hope just yet.

We have settled for a house, as we were worried something better wouldnt come up. It isn't our forever home and we didn't want to lose our buyers. We are in a tight budget and it was the best available at the time - nothing else had come up for weeks before hand.

I'm hoping in a few years we will sell up, be able to get a mortgage, and get our dream home. I've no idea how you coordinate that though! If you can rent or live with family for a while it outs you in a good position.

I’ve spoken to an agent today and they’ve said that traditionally this is a very quiet week. Schools back next week and a bank holiday. September should see a lot more properties come into the market. I hoping so, I lost out on a house on Monday, I’m a cash buyer with nothing to sell, so hopefully will find something soon.

@Meandyouandyouandme that’s interesting, let’s hope so!

I thought the house hunting was supposed to be the fun part of it!

Yes, then again this year is far from normal, so who knows what’ll happen in the next few weeks. House hunting is fun, but is stressful once you find a house you want that you can’t have. I’ve bought quite a few over the years and the one you end up buying is always worth waiting for Smile
