Fire escape windows and fire doors, 3s in survey

The house I'm buying, built in 1900, end terrace, has come back with stacks of 3s. Is that usual with this type of property. The most concerning are the lack of fire escape routes, the attic door is no longer compliant and I need fire escape windows to attic and back bedroom. Anyone had this done? I'm in South Yorkshire. It's not just the cost it's also findng a good company. With all the other 3s (chimney needs repointing urgently) just feeling overwhelmed with buying

You can't safely jump from the second floor so you need a protected escape through the house (fire doors and alarms.) If you have this you don't need an escape window at first floor as the internal escape is sufficient.

We have a very tall 3 storey 1900 town house and we got the local fire safety officer to come round and talk to us about this. We were going to get some kind of rope ladder for the top floor bedroom but we were told to get everyone in a front bedroom, shut the door and wait at the window to be rescued.

This may be because we are 6 mins from the fire station but we were told that the old solid doors would give us plenty of time for them to come and put a ladder up to the window.

We do have windows that open so maybe that's the issue yesterdays?

No idea about the fire doors (other than when we converted the loft in our old house we had to replace all the doors).

Our 1915 house didn’t have any 3s on the survey, only 1s and 2s - and it’s still cost a fortune to renovate. I’d possibly be quite wary of 3s and wouldn’t proceed without an actual quote, potentially wanting to negotiate for the work.

What do they mean by fire escape windows? You have to have them when you get windows replaced and they’re usually just windows that open in a way that would allow you to get out. Normal double glazing companies would do that all the time. Or is it something more they want?

Thanks all, yes I think it's windows you can climb out of. I will Google fire safety officer and also I've been told the fire service will come round and fit alarms free of charge...seems a bit random but I'll look into it. I was also wondering about fire extinguishers...

I wouldn't bother with fire extinguishers. Its the get out, stay out that is the most important thing.
