Would you live on a busy road? Need Big house but have small budget

Hi,

So we are looking at buying at the moment as we need to upsize. Our budget is small for the area which is expensive. We can afford a house in a quiet cul de sac but it would be absolute top of our budget and smallish. After looking we would not be gaining much extra downstairs space than we have now but would be getting the extra bedroom we need (our home is extended downstairs by the previous owner).
There are bigger houses but they are on busy roads.
One is big enough for us to live in for a long long time. It has a front garden but it's on the second busiest road in our small village/town. It's not the m1 by all means but it's pretty much constant traffic and bad at rush hour. It's the main way people access the village. The house is set back and has a garden at the back which backs on to a lovely wood. It has a private road at the back with parking. The kids rooms would be at the back so it would be us at the front. It's a lovely looking property. Would you?

We do have a cat so that is a worry. I'd hope that she's old and wise enough to only go out back. I doubt we would ever use the front door anyway. It is gated and raised up from the road so I don't worry about my children running out ect.
I have just been out and obviously use that road and it's constant cars. I don't know what it's like early morning or late but I can't imagine it's ever quiet.
The same property on a cul de sac or quieter Road would never be even close to our budget. The road really has brought the price down. Which also puts me off because what if we ever need to sell. Its been on the market for 2 months already. Such a huge decision.

Go and check it out at different times of day. I live by a fairly main road and now there is a constant hum, at rush hour, there can be stationary traffic but by 9:00pm, it is down to an occasional passing car. We moved from a quiet cul-de-sac and it really doesn’t bother me. Like PP say, you just get used to it.

This is exactly the choice we made, and so glad we did. We did put in new double glazing etc. and will do a few more things including thermal curtain liners, planting more trees at the front (have been looking at which are most effective for blocking sounds). Only a few weeks here but getting used to the noise, also woodland behind, no near neighbours (I didn't want any!). Having the extra space has been transformative. Also, when our children are older they will be able to take buses rather than be ferried around (semi-rural).

I wouldn’t mind - grew up on a busy road and you do get used to it.
