How much did you pay for your DIY Kitchens kitchen?

Including fitting?

We've got our planning permission in at the moment and we're trying to figure whether the equity we can release will cover the kitchen, too.

The kitchens look a bargain online but I'd be interested to know what it all totalled to in the end.

Just finalising mine. Will be £10k all in excluding new flooring and just laminate worktop. But that’s for in frame units which are pricer. Includes tiling and cheap tiles, new dishwasher, sink and tap. £2.5k is fitting, plastering and tiling.

TokenGinger · 21/08/2020 20:46

Thanks both, that's really helpful. Two different ends of the spectrum there.

Are you both happy with the finish?

are you in London?
We were told London minimum for installation would be £4K.

Butterfly44 · 21/08/2020 22:05

It really depends on how many units you are talking about. I had about 16-18. Cost of units from DIY 2.5k two years ago. Fitting by a fitter around 500. The granite worktop cost more than whole kitchen though.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 21/08/2020 22:41

My basic kitchen and my finished kitchen from DIY at the end of 2018, units plus worktops was just under 3k. Fitting, which as the units are supplied built took one man three days, including worktops, trims etc was £400 but plumbers were an extra £200

I've just recommended DIY kitchens on another neighbourhood forum!
Ours are 7 years old, solid wood, painted to order, paid £5500 for around 25 units, including large larder cupboards and sink. Would really recommended. Fitting not extortionate but part of extension cost so cant
Remember exactly. Ours still look like new, in a busy family kichen.

TokenGinger · 22/08/2020 07:18

I'm in the North West so suspect fitting costs will be much cheaper than London.

Love that kitchen @RealityExistsInTheHumanMind.

It seems like a great place to buy with. I'm definitely going to go to the showroom and enquire about prices for fitting.

Thank you :)

Ours is from DIY kitchens, been in 3 years now and looks like new. DP fitted it himself and it looks fab, worktops are oak and came from worktop express made to measure so just slotted in place. I’m not sure of the cost as was all part of the renovation of our new home.

Darkestseasonofall · 22/08/2020 07:34

Mine was only about 3k, but I got worktops and appliances from elsewhere.
As pp fitting was part of a bigger reconfiguration of downstairs, so can't separate out fitting costs.
I'm guessing the fitting will be absorbed in the extension cost, it's really hard to disentangle how much it costs to juts fit a kitchen, as lots of the cost is getting the water and electricity where it needs to be.

wowfudge · 22/08/2020 07:55

@TokenGinger DIY Kitchens do not fit. They may be able to recommend a fitter, but they don't offer fitting.

TokenGinger · 22/08/2020 08:27

@wowfudge Thank you, I should have mentioned that in my post that I knew that. I have never paid to have a kitchen fitted (first home) so I wasn't sure how much one would cost.

Depending on the survey and value of our house, if I can release a bit more equity, I'll check with the builder if he can add it on to his bill. I think that'd be easier, like you all say you've done.

We had the builder sort the island plumbing and the plastering. The electrician did all the necessary work then we paid a kitchen fitter to fit the actual units.

RoseCaterpillar · 22/08/2020 09:08

I am just in the middle of my kitchen. Here's my costs so far:

£3250 for kitchen from DIY - includes
Base:

  • 2 large corner units
  • 2 deep pan drawers
  • 1 sink unit
  • 1 built in bin
  • 1 pull out rack
  • 3 fronts for built in appliances
Top:
  • 1 corner unit
  • 4 600m units
  • 2 300 m units
  • 1 pull out spice rack
Plus filler panels, base trim, cornice and pelmets.

Extras
New built in appliances (fridge freezer dishwasher) and extractor fan £1350 (ao.com)
Sink and tap £380 (plum world)

Trades people
Plasterer £580 full reskim, some
Brickwork and one wall new plaster board
Tiles and fitting £1500 (£48 per square meter)
Electrician £350
Plumber £200
New large window £1500

I will fit the actually units myself as they are ready assembled and I'm pretty handy at DIY. Plumber will fit the sink.

Still need worktops... which will hopefully be quartz if budget allows so these will be measured and fitted in the price from the company.

my kitchen is about 5m by 3m for reference.

isseywith4vampirecats · 22/08/2020 14:21

yes im very happy with mine this is just after fitting before the tiles which my OH is putting in at the moment (at tortoise speed)

@RoseCaterpillar That breakdown is so helpful, thank you very much. It's good to see where the costs come into it. Would love to see it once all finished!

@isseywith4vampirecats That is lovely 😍 I love that marble worktop. Is it one of the more expensive ones or laminate (she says, with fingers crossed it's laminate!) xx

OP posts:
isseywith4vampirecats · 22/08/2020 21:55

@TokenGinger its laminate carrera marble from DIY kitchens 4 metres lengths we got two were £142 each and are 40mm thick which is thicker than most laminate ones and is really good quality

TokenGinger · 22/08/2020 22:15

@isseywith4vampirecats That's amazing! It looks so nice. I'm definitely going to go to the showroom for a look around. Yours is so lovely.

@TokenGinger

Thanks - I love it too - it rarely looks that tidy now though Grin

I think you currently need to book slot in order to visit - it really is well worth it though. They have an area with all the different optional inserts so you can see what you like in terms of drawer styles, pull outs, integral bins etc. They also have samples from other main players so you can compare (Wrens, B&Q, Wickes, Magnet and Howdens if I recall correctly.)

Lily7050 · 22/08/2020 23:29

@RealityExistInTheHumanMind: Have you noticed difference between samples from main players?
I have seen Howdens and Benchmarx, and got door samples from DIY, and tbh, I cannot see much difference in MDF doors.

TokenGinger · 23/08/2020 08:53

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind That's good to know re: booking in! I'm just awaiting the surveyor valuing my property and once I know what chunk of money I have to play with from the equity release, I'll get myself booked in.

I bought my kitchen and utility room units from there. The kitchen units are Stanbury Lamp Room Grey, I got it 3 years ago and 8 base units (including one of their fancy pull out corner things), 1 x oven unit, 1 x larder unit, 1 x fridge freezer unit, 4 x wall units, 1 x wine fridge, 1.5 bowl sink and 4 x floor to ceiling storage units came to about 5.5k.

I've just had my utility room fitted in Altino cashmere. For 4 x base units, 7 x wall units, a single sink, tap and white laminate worktop it came in at 2k.

Both of them look lovely. I can feel the difference in quality (thickness of the door) between the two (Stanbury much thicker). I've had a few kitchens fitted in the past (much to DH's annoyance) and a good kitchen fitter makes the world of difference so definitely shop around and find local recommendations.

TokenGinger · 23/08/2020 17:56

@MsLumley Thank you, that's really helpful. Interesting to see you can feel the quality difference between the two. Will definitely make sure I shop around for a kitchen fitter xx
