Lovely white walls! Help!

We've opted for light colour walls and maybe something close to brilliant white but less....bright for our living room. if you are happy to post pictures too that would be helpful!

My lounge is Dulux white mist, which is a lovely warm white but not a yellowish cream which I’d hate.

We went for a chalky colour - can't remember the precise name - but it looked lovely in every light.

I paint all my walls brilliant white and have done for ages. It makes everywhere seem bigger and brighter. It means I can choose the rest of my decor without needing to consider whether colours will clash, and provides a good base for artwork.

Happy to share living and bedroom of flat I’ve just sold (it’s been on Rightmove, thousands of people have seen it already.) Currently making new house look very similar.

I think off-whites are personal choice but you have to be cautious about the right ones. Yellowish creams can just look grubby and tired. Whites with a very slight hint of pink better.

Another vote for brilliant white. You then have a totally blank canvas, which we’ve accessorised to keep the space feeling warm yet bright and spacious. I love it.

Also the huge tubs of paint are so cheap

🤣🤣 I thought exactly the same.

Sarah Beeney made a comment about brilliant white on TV this eve. That it is unforgiving if the wall isn't completely smooth. Whereas off whites are more forgiving for less than perfect surfaces. She also said that white only really works if combined with lots of texture and natural green plants.
Take it or leave it. I have one brilliant white room which looks 'cheap' and uninspiring. I may try plants, fake fur throws and other layers of texture in there to test the theory.

How about F&B Cornforth White or Ammonite? Can also colour match as quite ££ for the whole house.

Jasmine white dulux is well worth a tester pot

Last winter I spent far more time than was reasonable studying colour charts and creating mood boards for our whole house refurb. Then came lockdown and the project ground to a halt. At the beginning of May I rang our local DIY shop and made an appointment to collect the only paint available. Brilliant white matt. Now the entire house is a tasteful, bespoke shade of Lockdown White.

I love the idea of Lockdown White!

I use Little Green Loft White - it's nearly pure white, but just slightly chalky/softer.

I'm considering Dulux timeless or jasmine white or pure brilliant white. I really don't know.....

We've got dulux natural calico in several rooms with feature walls, bit warmer than brilliant white! We have feature walls and accessories such as cushions, plants in pots, curtains etc to tie it all together.

Doesn't disguise wax crayon on the wall better than brilliant white unfortunately!

Crown pure brilliant white in soft sheen and most of the trade brilliant whites are softer and chalking than standard matt pbw.

They look really nice, I used the crown in last house and its just as nice as dulux timeless which I also used.

Current house have used one matt 20l cheap Tubs and also trade white. Both are brilliant.

I don't get why people say they look cheap or cold, surely that would be done to the decor, furniture and accessories and how the room is layered and lit.

Or trade white which is cheap as chips and not as stark as brilliant white.

Second white mist by Dulux. A very very very pale grey, warm, not purple or blue. It works everywhere, 3 rooms in our house are painted in it - north facing, south facing.

Oh I saw a colour scheme the other week ( oneplan's house actually ) where she had white walls and Manor House grey skirting and doors. Looked really lovely. I was on a zoom call and asked about a simple room scheme for my guest room.

These are all fab suggestions thank you! The room currently is a quick coat of trade contract brilliant white so we could see the imperfections and it's way too bright for me. I had started off with a totally different idea for colours so already got loads of samples but off to B&Q later to get some of these and will most likely colour match and use Valspar as much better with a mucky toddler!
