Reduced height garden door

Hello, I am getting a new kitchen and planning to knock through the wall between the kitchen and a small adjacent lean-to to make space for a small dining area. The lean-to has a window opening on the patio, and I would love to replace the window with a patio door, but the wall is very low (lean-to has a sloped ceiling).

The current garden door is next to the kitchen entrance so you need to walk alongside the kitchen to reach the patio and garden (about 4 metres)
The builder has suggested we could potentially lower the floor a bit, but the door will not have a standard height. I reckon the max door height we can achieve would be around 185cm. Would you go for this solution and get a low-height door? Or would you keep side door for the sake of keeping a standard door?

Have you got any plans or drawings?
It's hard to picture what you are describing, so that would help.

this is a door giving entry to the house?

So you need it to be a secure external door, with good locks and bolts.

Are your other doors wooden, or plastic?

I've attached a diagram, I am planning to open up the wall between utility and kitchen, and I would like to put a door where the utility window is as it would open up to the garden patio, but the max height I can achieve is around 185 + lintel. The alternative would be to leave a window there and keep the door on the side, which is all right except you need to walk alongside the kitchen to reach the garden.

We are a short family and could live with a short door.

I would be more worried about building regs both with knocking through to what sounds like a conservatory- type room (?) and in the door height. Also would lowering floor level create any trip hazards in, or leading to, the kitchen?

I would be ok with a shorter door, I'm only 5ft 6 and never wear heels anymore!

Have you got the width for a door though?

I'm actually thinking of doing something similar, but I'm not sure I've got the width either.

The lean-to it's actually brick built, not a conservatory, the overall width is 2.2 metres and window is 1.5 wide so fine for a door. Obv we will need a RSJ to support the wall. There is already a 10cm step between the kitchen and the rest of the house, I would need to dig at least 5cm to achieve 185 headroom. Obv It's going to be more expensive than keeping the door where it is, so just a bit concerned it will look "odd" or put potential buyers off whenever we are going to sell. On the other hand the house is quite old (1900), so maybe a little character is expected? Grin
