Torturing myself by looking at Rightmove

DH and I have decided to move out of London in two years' time, when our fixed rate mortgage comes to an end. We have one DS who will be 2.5 when we move.

Since we agreed this, I've started scouring Rightmove for properties in our preferred location, and have seen several absolute gems come up for sale and subsequently be sold.

It's getting me down as I keep thinking that we've missed out on yet another stunning property - even though we're not really in a position to move yet! (We'd have to pay a considerable penalty if we were to exit our fixed term early). We want to buy in a rural location so there isn't exactly a glut of properties to choose from.

Is it best just to ban myself from looking at Rightmove for the next two years?

@unfortunateevents do you check on Google maps ? If you use their satellite view and street view you can find out a fair amount so there is less risk of nasty surprises when you go and view in person

@nevertwerknaked yes, sorry my last post wasn't clear. It is through looking at the property details very closely, the satellite and street view and Magic Maps (better than Google) that we have discounted many properties before we viewed. Also, as we are looking for a new home several hours from where we currently live, we are are pretty blunt in asking agents what the issue is with any property which has been on the market for a long time - there's always a reason and they might as well tell us upfront rather than wasting hours of ours and their time!

@elprup

I didn’t consider the stamp duty holiday - that’s a really good point, thanks all!
We're paying the penalty to cash in early and move now purely because of the stamp duty holiday. We're still saving £10k by doing that and won't be priced out of where we want to be .
