Cost to replace a sash window

How much would you expect to pay in the South East/London to replace a sash window (single glazed, 175 x 105cm) please? Trying to see how sensible the quotes are...

Depends if your fitting yourself or having someone do it for you. If you're doing it yourself the glass itself shouldn't be that expensive,

We've just had 2 replaced completely by a carpenter friend.

Toughened glass, weights, cords, safety locks etc but the frames/boxes were unpainted so I did that.

Cost £2550.

What have you been quoted OP?

Goostacean · 12/08/2020 17:18

No, nothing myself- needs to be fully supplied, fitted and old one removed.

£1800 + VAT is the current quote, waiting for someone else to come back to me.

I recently got my original sash windows restored and double glazed. It was much more cost effective than getting them replaced and they are good as new. Its a bay window and was ~£2k in London.

@Okdaisy How bad a state was it in? I attach pictures of mine...

@DavetheCat2001 they look great! I attach a photo of mine from the inside. Would your friend work in West Hampstead, do you think? If so, could you please send me their details?

I had four restored for 1200. They look beautiful now and I'm so pleased they are the original ones. They were fully sealed shut with paint and in poor condition.

Goostacean · 12/08/2020 20:41

@ineedmoresleepnow thanks- was that in London, and recently? Could you recommend your tradesperson please?

I'm in the north sorry, I should have said. I did have to strip and paint the frames myself in between restoration for context on price.

Okdaisy · 12/08/2020 20:53

@Goostacean I'd say they were in similar condition. Parts were completely rotten. They are good as new now! A lot of companies I contacted didnt want to decorate them but the guy who did ours decorated them too. This is the company that did them
