Making an offer - AIBU ?

I have the personal email of the seller as her property is a holiday let and her personal mobile and email is on the website.

Would it be poor form to cc the owner into the email to the agent with my offer? I know the agents are legally bound to forward on any offers in writing but I want her to see the full email not just selected parts.

Did she give you the email address? If not, it could make her feel uncomfortable, and could backfire on you.

Why not email the estate agent , & then contact owner a day or 2 later to ask if agent forwarded the offer?

pilates · 05/08/2020 22:20

Yes it would be poor form.

jelly79 · 05/08/2020 22:28

What parts would the agent omit? Surely the seller would be told what the offer is in its entirety?

GiddapGreyWaynesKeat · 05/08/2020 22:30

I wouldn’t care what your email said. I’d just want to know how much you were offering

Moomin12345 · 05/08/2020 22:45

Poor form? Ah, yes. Mumsnet buying etiquette. Another good rule to avoid being rude is to always offer above the asking price. That way you won't hurt the sellers feelings and won't 'insult' them. Grin

It’s a bit awkward but if you’re not sure about the agent, then I’d do it. She’ll probably just reply back through the agent.

Itscoldouthere · 06/08/2020 11:08

As a recent seller I wouldn’t want people contacting me directly (unless I’d given you my number for a reason).
I pay the estate agent to deal with everyone, why don’t you trust the estate agent?

IamwhoIsayIam · 06/08/2020 14:09

I think for the reason given above that the agent will just send on the figure - not the surrounding information.
The owner and I have mutual friends but don't know each other directly. I know that some of the surrounding information about us as buyers would influence the seller and there is likely to be multiple offers at and around asking price so I want to make sure she has the whole picture so we stand out from the other offers.

My estate agent didn’t just give me offers in £££ they explained the position each person was in, as a seller you don’t make your decision based just on money, you need a full picture before you can decide if you want to proceed with a buyer.
But as I said that’s what I paid my estate agent for, to find out the full picture and give me all the details, I don’t understand why you think the estate agents won’t do this?unless you have had a bad experience with this agent.

UPDATE Our offer was accepted by the vendor - following the proper channels as everyone suggested above - but then we were gazumped by someone who contacted the owner privately and put their case in person. In future sod the etiquette and just do what you have to do!

Sorry to hear that. It’s really a minefield.
