Letting Agents trying to charge for tenants again

Hello.

I own a property that is being managed by a letting agency. The letting agency found the tenants two years ago. I paid them accordingly for this.

The contract is coming to an end and I wish to take over the running of the property fully myself. The tenants are willing to stay on.
However the letting agency are saying that as they found the tenants they are due a letting fee.

Is this correct? Can they do this legally?

Any help or advice is gratefully received. Thanks.

Depends what your contract with them says. It's bound to be covered. Have a look.

Yes, there's no general answer - you have to read your contract with the letting agency. If it's not on there, they're taking the piss. If it is, you suck it up.

That sounds like a right piss take

Did you have to give the agents notice that you were ending their contract? Could the contract be a rolling contract?

This should be set out in the termination clause of your contract. It might well be different as you are coming to the end of the contract term, but there still might well be a clause allowing for them to claim fees for any tenants they have introduced at any point.
