Equifax mortgage nightmare

Hoping someone can help...

We've had an offer on a property accepted. The lender uses Equifax for credit checks. It came back as 'refer' as my husband couldn't be identified. He had to send a copy of his passport & utility bill which he did.

Now he's on the system and it says his credit is poor (it was good when we spoke to bank recently).

It turns out there are no credit agreements, no previous addresses, on some sections no current address (despite it being in his profile).

From what I gather, Equifax have appalling customer service, a record of taking ages to fix mistakes, have been hacked in the past, will fob people off to get them off the phone...

Has anyone out there any experience of dealing with them? Worried this will screw up the mortgage application and we'll lose the house.

Hi, have you guys got a good mortgage broker? and by good I mean not a chain, a good independent. If so they should be able to guide you of what you need to do to fix this?

Bastard Credit reference agencies! Have a look at Citizens Advice website here www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/borrowing-money/how-lenders-decide-whether-to-give-you-credit/ will give you some tips.
Also second MartinJD1976 get a good broker, you might have to pay a fee but they will be worth their weight in gold!

Equifax are vile...I have complained to the Financial Ombudsman about them recently and still waiting for resolution.

My credit file is showing a bank account under that name that was opened fraudulently. The bank admitted liability, paid me compensation and wrote to all credit agencies for them to update their records. Equifax have done nothing. Frankly most credit agencies are complete cowboys and that industry needs to be regulated...

Equifax showed DH as having a mortgage and defaulted credit card when he was seven years old! It took us ages and the help of a very lovely IFA to get it sorted. We ended up going with a different lender who used a different credit agency or we would've lost the house

I'm already using a broker. She's suggesting we try and persuade my mum to cough up more money so we can get an 85% mortgage (I think she's been generous helping us as much as she has already, I've no intention of begging more which I know she won't be comfortable with!).

Mortgage broker already tried an alternative lender who do 90% - who then stopped doing 90% with no warning.

I want to cry. We are going to lose this house.
