Roller v's Paint Sprayer

We've built an 80m2 extension and need to paint all the new plaster (two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, sitting room, study, utility room and cloakroom). No windows or radiators in yet so a complete blank space, nothing to tape off.

I'm planning using the same colour throughout for now and will also need to do an initial mist coat as it's fresh plaster.

I want to do the work myself but can't decide between a roller (pretty experienced and good at this) or a paint sprayer (never used one).

Anyone have experience or suggestions for me on which might work better?

Roller.

Sprayers are not as simple as you think, and you have to mask off windows, doors, lights, switches, floor

We don't have any windows, doors, lights, switches so it would just be covering the floor.

Is it difficult to learn to use a sprayer?

I have a sprayer and used it very successfully for my new build.

Be warned, it goes everywhere but is very quick and so long as you do it right you get very smooth walls.

Thanks @TobyHouseMan, did you buy or hire a machine?

@PragmaticWench I bought one:- www.toolstation.com/wagner-airless-sprayer-plus/p73008

Sold it after I was done. Very good and quick results.

I would definitely use a sprayer, it's quick and it gives a very good result. However you need more coats than you think. Care is needed not to overdo internal corners or underdo external ones (such as above windows and external doors

To get the best result, immediately after the last coat on each flat surface, go over quickly with a clean dry roller. The reason for that is you get a 'too perfect' result from a sprayer. It is really smooth. If you catch any paint while fitting electrics, fittings or even furniture any touch ups really show as they are not smooth. Giving a quick once over with a dry roller eases that issue as it gives a still smooth but more natural surface.

Thank you for all the advice! I'm definitely leaning towards a sprayer as there aren't any fixtures yet, whereas if there were lots to tape off I'd most likely go with a roller for less mess.

Now to ponder which sprayer to buy...

We have a big compressor...not sure why ! And got a spray gun...did all garden furniture and the new small extension...it's fast but does use quite a lot of paint... finish is very smooth.
