Decorating for selling

We bought a home two years ago and are now, unexpectedly looking to sell. Fortunately it's for good reasons not bad. We are in the middle of several projects, but don't know what to do/prioritize before selling. It was a new build, so whilst basic in some areas (we didn't overpay for options as we'd planned to be here to change them ourselves!) it's all fairly new, and in some cases blank canvas, in other places really unfinished, but functional.

  1. We have some rooms with paint samples on the walls - should we turn them back to white, or put on the colours we've bought? The colours would help style the room and look fresh/more polished, but also might not be to some people's taste.
  1. We were changing all our doors and skirting from Gloss to Egg shell. Is it worth carrying on? We've done one room and a third of the hall way. Would it look weird if the wood changed on the stairs?
  1. How can I make a plain/boring/basic bathroom more appealing? It's very dull. White walls, no windows so not bright, yellow hue to the ceiling light that again is basic. Bathrooms were low on our list so haven't been done. Is it worth a splash of colour on the walls (light to counter the dim lighting) or buy some storage furniture and decorations? I probably don't want to spend too much on decorations as I'm not sure what style I'd like in the new house.

Any thoughts on what we should do to help maximise the speed of sale would be great. Thanks

(PS. We will embark on a declutter first!)

I'd paint over the samples so it looks tidy. If you've bought the paint and the colours are mainstream I'd use them. It's unlikely the same colours would be any good in another house. Otherwise plain white is good. For the woodwork I think leaving it is ok. I might finish the hallway so the house looks cared for but rooms having a different finish is fine. In the bathroom I'd get a mirror and some nice fluffy towels, make sure the grout is clean/resilicone the shower etc. Hope that's helpful.
