Finding a property to buy

Hi

I’m looking to buy a house in North Chingford. There seems to be very little on the market and for some of the houses we’ve seen, the prices are ridiculous. We saw one we really liked but someone else beat us to it.

Is anyone else having problems finding a good value-for-money house to buy? Is demand currently higher than supply where you are looking? Does anyone know what to expect in terms of property prices and supply of houses?

North Chingford is lovely but a little cheaper than Woodford and other areas nearby because its not on the Tube. Other parts of Chingford are significantly cheaper but not as good in terms of access to transport. Not what you want to hear. Make friends with the estate agent at Chingford Station, many properties go through him.

Thanks Mosaic. I’m beginning to worry that I’ll not find a good property to buy. It’s so frustrating.

Different area but same problem. There is hardly anything left and what is left has sky rocketed in price.

Have you looked at Highams Park? It's quirky and lovely and close to Chingford.

Same issue here.

Practically everything has sold in the last few weeks, even properties that have been on the market for long periods.

I am rural so suspect we are experiencing a post CV desire from some people to move out of cities and have larger gardens etc.

I read a very interesting thread on here a couple of weeks ago, suggesting house prices will fall next spring.

I just cant decide how it will impact the local market when people moving into the area realise our rural idyll becomes much more difficult when the winter approaches. Roads blocked with snow, local flooding, no food deliveries, delays in Oil deliveries etc. all tend to take the gloss off paradise.

I cant help but wonder if we will see the rural properties being snapped up now, back on the market and driving our prices down even further next year.

If we wait too long, our mortgage offer will run out and the stamp duty relief period will be over. I feel very anxious as my life is a bit on hold.

I guess there will always be a constant flow of properties on the market? Surely, it can’t just dry up to a ridiculous level.

I find myself looking for to Monday and everyday I’ll be check the websites constantly to see what’s new.

exactly this!! we have been looking for a year and even some houses that have hung around for ages have all sold in the last couple of weeks

i wonder if once everything goes back to normal, the people that have suddenly brought in rural areas wont be so keen anymore

Good luck with your house hunting, I hope you find something soon. The stamp duty holiday has made me feel quite stressed. I'm travelling in late August/September to look at two different counties.

It made me smile the comment about rural living - I moved from London to rural countryside twenty years ago. I've just sold my house to a Londoner and he's put a hive in the front of the porch. Only thing it's going to record are the deer :)

I’ve spent the last 4 weeks looking at properties and I am feeling fed up and unhappy. I don’t think I can view another property. I feel like giving up on moving.

I made an offer on a property yesterday and expected to hear back from the vendor via the estate agent yesterday afternoon. We were told the vendor was out and that today the estate agent would chase the vendor. Waited all day for the call and then called the estate agent only to be told that they haven’t been able to get hold of the vendor. I really wanted to draw a line under this this weekend. Now we have to wait until Monday (I hope) to hear whether our offer was accepted. I don’t know why but I feel down and fed up and I guess worried that the vendor will reject the offer.

Just feel irritated even before doing a viewing. The agent or staff member in the office (who hasn't rung back to confirm) asked for my details and said "wonderful" every time I answered. Er.....?

Chewingbubblegum · 02/08/2020 13:28

It’s maddening isn’t it Roma? I was speaking to an estate agent yesterday and he was breathing so hard into the phone that I almost lost my mind.

What a nightmare!
