Should I sell and move before house prices crash?

My husband and i have been thinking about moving up north so that we can get a bigger house. I keep seeing that house prices are going to crash at the end of the year because of rona and furlough and the stamp duty ending. Should i sell now while the house prices are high and then buy in a few months time up north? We'll be able to stay with the hubbys parents while we look and hopefully get somewhere cheaper as well!

As far as I can tell house prices just keep going up!! Although could be my area maybe? It’s always guess work with property, but intend to find it works itself out money wise anyway, so probably wouldn’t make to much of a difference. Probably wouldn’t sell myself until I was looking to move though- people don’t like long chains like that

Begging the question!

I’m not sure they will!

I don’t think they will crash. They’ve never crashed in the 36 years I’ve owned houses.

Actually no, they have crashed in some areas, but in the better areas, prices have just carried on rising, no matter what happens to the economy.

I know this is a different situation, but prices round me are continuing to rise and rise.

Sorry, just seen you will move in with his parents, what I said still stands though, I wouldn’t sell until I was moving- imagine being stuck at any parents house because prices went up further- I wouldn’t risk that!

No one really knows what's going to happen. they may drop a bit but then there will be less on market, it's unlikely there will be a huge crash. If you're looking for a long term home (ie over 5 years) just buy when you find something you like and ride out the drops and peaks. Don't rush into buying something you don't really love but feel the need to wait if you find something you do.

We're thinking of putting our house on the market. We want to make the most of the fact there's no stamp duty up to £500,000. We've spoken to 2 estate agents and apparently the market is buoyant at the moment. There are many more buyers than houses so it's good time to sell. I don't know what the future holds but for now prices are going up.
