From a semi to a terrace

Hi, I've name changed for this as someone may recognise me and read previous posts.

We're hopeful of an offer on our house this weekend. We live in a 3 bed semi, but are fairly overlooked by high rise flats. Next door not attached but fairly close is 3 storey flats. The houses we can afford in a nicer area are 3 bed terraces. Has anyone moved to a smaller house & a terrace for a better area? I'm worried we may regret downsizing (although still big enough) but I love the new area

Do you have children or use bikes? What I hated when I Iived in a terrace was bikes going through the house and kids running in and out to the garden. Depends on layout of terrace though.

We moved from a new build detached on the outskirts of town with nothing but fields at the back to a 1930's mid-terrace with houses directly behind us.

We were a bit concerned about noise through the walls but, apart from occasionally hearing the side joined next to the stairs calling up to their daughter, it's really peaceful.

My DH has a bike which lives in the shed but we have an access road to the back of the house (road is a bit much...it's a grass-covered track) so it doesn't need to come through the house.

Thank you, I think there's a little alley shared between the two houses judging my the pictures so hopefully that can be used for bikes etc..

Not quite the same but we moved from a detached house that had apartments in front and to one side and a four storey house on the other side, to a semi-detached in a close of semi-detached houses.

It’s lovely to get some light into the house! We went from being in a town to a very suburban area so that was an adjustment. I am conscious of the next-door neighbour. But it was the right move for our family.

Personally, I’d much rather live in a terraced house than a semi surrounded by high rise flats. However, your potential house sounds like a semi too if there’s access to the back. You could also look for an end-of-terrace so that you’re only attached to one set of neighbours and have direct access to the back.

I would always go for size. My best friend and I both both our houses with our partners within 3 months of each other. We paid exactly the same for 3 bedroom houses.

They choose the 'nicer' side of our area, semi detached. We choose the cheaper part of our area, terraced house that needed work. We have all since gone on to have 3 kids. They struggle so much for space. Their small room really is a box and they have a very small galley kitchen. Living room and dinning room are knocked through and not very big, prob smaller than our kitchen dinner.

We have 3 decent size rooms and it's so spacious but also had the space to do a list conversion. Also have 2 reception rooms plus a kitchen dinner.

It meant more to them to have a quiet location but they struggle with the space. We love the house, area and have so much space o never want to leave

You need to think about what is more important to you ?

Also our terrace has a big double garage and a lane access

Thank you, we can't view any till ours is under offer so hopefully we will have a better idea when we go for a viewing

I would never go back to a terraced house

I would only go back to a terrace house if I was one of the end ones.
