Green Homes Grant

Does anyone know any detail about the Green Homes Grant scheme Rishi Sunak announced recently? We were hoping to replace some single glazed windows in the next few months but if there is a chance we could get help we’ll hold off. We’re unlikely to qualify if it’s means tested.

All I can find is that details will be announced in September, I'm hoping to replace a front door which let's a breeze in all the way around! We won't qualify if it's means tested though either 🙄

Bump

Sarjest · 26/07/2020 08:14

We’ve asked a couple of window companies. One said they didn’t think windows were included and another said an industry comms stated they did not expect it to have a significant impact on business. On the basis of that she questioned whether it was worth getting accreditation.

Tokyo, doesn’t the scheme start in September? Surely they will release details in August?

We were hanging on for more detail before we looked into replacing old windows. I've seen no detail yet, have been watching Martyn Lewis's MoneySavingExpert site as expecting it that it will be on there as soon as there is an update. Am wondering if it will come out 3 Aug so 1 month before the scheme starts.

Pipeworkhelp · 26/07/2020 13:58

Can’t see it not being means tested tbh

Jonesn1 · 26/07/2020 14:16

Grinwaiting for news as well! My boiler is 15 years old and on its last hopefully they will be included.

Lemonylemony · 26/07/2020 14:37

I didn’t get the impression it was going to be means tested for 2/3rds if the project cost up to £5000, but the additional up to £10000 would be. So any of us could use it but means tested for higher values/100% of the project.

I read somewhere that Martin Lewis (MSE) was tipped off that boilers might not be included :-(

Pipeworkhelp · 26/07/2020 15:12

It does seem to ask 5k vouchers- does this mean you get full 5k if it’s 75% of project? So actual cost approx 6.5-7k

Oldmrswasherwoman · 04/08/2020 18:23

More details been announced Aug 4th

Pipeworkhelp · 04/08/2020 18:58

Please post a link! Grin

It's on Gov.uk today.

here hopefully

Tradespeople are urged to sign up to register to provide the services and people will be able to apply in September - that's my understanding after a quick scan...

Sarjest · 04/08/2020 19:16

I’ve got it:

www.gov.uk/government/news/quality-assurance-at-heart-of-new-2-billion-green-homes-grants

So you can apply later this month and vouchers will be made available in September. It appears that the survey will prioritise insulation over the replacement of single glazing. Does anyone else read it that way? We’ve been getting window quotes and a subsidy would be welcome. I don’t fancy my chances however as I couldn’t even get a £50 bike voucher- the system crashed on the evening it started, next time I looked they were dealing with the issue and hours later all the vouchers had gone!

I would imagine there’ll be a stampede...

Fawn, you beat me to it!

@Sarjest - but your link actually works! Mine is shiteBlush

Pipeworkhelp · 04/08/2020 19:35

Hoping the fact that it’s single glazing replacement will help as a lot of people actually want to keep their single glazed sash windows

Oldmrswasherwoman · 04/08/2020 20:25

Sorry, posted in a hurry so was no link. From reading it you have to have one of the primary areas first e.g insulation, only then can you apply for double glazing and then only to replace single glazing. Just reading the detail through now, not quite as good a scheme as I'd hoped. (As always)

seven201 · 04/08/2020 21:23

I'm a bit disappointed too. We have old and draughty single glazed sash windows and we were hoping to put grant money towards those. Sounds like we have to pay for other things like insulation (we have it in the usual places I think) before being allowed the double glazing. So we have to pay for the assessment thing?

seven201 · 04/08/2020 21:43

www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/07/homeowners-to-receive-p5-000-vouchers-to-improve-energy-efficien/

Money saving expert has updated. The big one I hadn't noticed is that you only get the value from primary level to spend on secondary. So if you only spend £500 on insulation you only have £500 to put towards new windows or whatever.

HasaDigaEebowai · 05/08/2020 07:26

Yes my understanding was that this is primarily about insulation. The other stuff is a bonus and can't be accessed unless you put in the insulation (or low carbon energy) - and most people already have insulation.

senua · 05/08/2020 10:38

I wonder how this will pan out. When we were looking at replacement windows previously there was some scheme (I forget its name) that we could have gone for. The only trouble was that you had to use registered providers, who had to sign up to the Government bureaucracy. By the time the providers had passed on the cost of all this red tape to the customer you weren't much better off than using a non-scheme provider (we still got our FENSA certificates with the non-scheme people). In fact, you were worse off because it slowed everything down.

HasaDigaEebowai · 05/08/2020 12:53

it seems very much like the old green deal scheme

Lallanala · 05/08/2020 22:04

I’m on a low income and was hoping I could get my old wooden framed windows replaced using this scheme, but it looks like I’d have to get solar panels or a heat pump thing first to then qualify for the same amount towards windows...but then only if they are single glazed which I don’t think they are. What a shame, I really don’t think this scheme will be of much use to people, unless you have absolutely no insulation in your house at the moment or are maybe off grid or something then you could get an eco friendly heat pump thing and have some of the cost covered. I think there are other schemes available which allow you to have very cheap insulation though so this seems a bit of a non starter to me.

TeaLibrary · 06/08/2020 16:55

I'm quite disappointed with this scheme. Lots of factors to think about. Having to use the grant on a primary measure like insulation or a very expensive low carbon heat pump system and only then do you qualify for anything towards double glazing and only if it replaces single glazing. Then you only get the same amount of funding for your double glazing as you had towards your insulation. Lots of hoops to jump through and in the end it doesn't really seem like it would benefit most people.

Forwhatitsworth101 · 06/08/2020 17:13

Does anyone know how much and how disruptive is underfloor insulation? Do you need it on all floors?
