Hi all, I am new to this thread and came across it when I was searching moving to the Whitstable area.
I just wondered if anyone had any advice of areas. We are an older couple (50+!) and are looking for a 3/4 bed detached house and a 2/3 bed house for my dad - can't leave him behind! We looked around the Borstal Hill area and by The Oaze/Warden Point and also by South Street/Chestfield (a bit more expensive). If you have any thoughts/tips on these areas I would be very grateful. I am finding it a bit overwhelming.
We have always loved Whitstable area and would preferably like to concentrate on these areas. Thank you all in advance.

Thank you so much for all your help and advice. I will register with local agents and check out the area/houses. Really appreciate it.

My partner and I are thinking of moving to Whitstable from London with our 5 year old daughter.

We've visited and love the feel of the local area and liked Tankerton with its easy access to Whitstable via the beach.
We are wondering how easy it is to make friends/does it have a community feel about it.? My DH works shifts so will only be home two weeks of each month so my concern is being a little lonely when my daughter is at school (I work from home as a writer) and some evenings.

Also are the primary schools any good?
Do houses directly on the beach ever come up for sale?

Thanks so much

Super friendly area. I grew up in Whitstable in the 1970s and have returned here to live with my elderly Dad after living in London for 3 decades. Of course it's so much busier and more built up than when I was young (isn't everywhere). Estate agents are rather crafty in what they term as 'Tankerton' which is the most desirable area - anything to the right of Bennells avenue is Swalecliffe and don't let them tell you otherwise! (slightly cheaper; still quite nice). Houses along the seafront are now very pricey - some ordinary 4-beds are well over a million! South Tankerton is up to and including the desirable Ham Shades Lane - lovely road with detached houses and the surrounding roads where there are a lot of semis. These are within walking distance to the sea/station/Swalecliffe school and close to All Saints Church Hall where there are loads of activities and an outstanding pre-school (and The Monument Pub!) Stay that side of the Thanet Way if you can afford to (ie between the sea and the Thanet Way). If you go to the other side of the Thanet Way (South Street/Clover Rise/Chestfield you will have to cross the motorway to get to the sea/station/town centre so they tend to a little cheaper although Chestfield has some massive and pricey mock-Tudor houses.
