Gigantic houses you see when driving through the countryside...

We have been doing lots of day trips to nearby scenic locations (as is the whole country) And we always wonder who lives in these huge (gorgeous) houses....

I mean, today for example, we drove through Worcestershire and some of these house had me doing a double take.

Obviously, the ones set back from the road that had a long driveway weren't visible to us, but the ones with enormous driveways, loads of windows and lovely lawned fronts caught my attention (as always)

I always wonder what the insides must look like...and how hard it must be to keep it looking lush (unless you have a team of cleaners)

So, if u live in one, I would love to know, was it inherited, are u minted and how do u feel roaming about in the endless space you have?

Very nosey, I know, but I had to ask today.

Thanks all...

I follow a blogger/YTer who lives in a big country pile. It's in her husband's family - his parents bought it. They own a successful car dealership or chain of them.

EthelMayFergus That sounds beautiful and perfectly planned. I think marrying a builder saves you a heck of a lot of money! Would love to see some parts of the house you described.

Hammeringinmyhead Who is this this YTber? Would love to check it out...

Be still my beating heart

This [https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-80782975.html house] is pretty stunning and what you are talking about op? Fully refurbed 20 years ago so not a money pit!
But the location isn't great being honest. Where is the nearest Waitrose!

Our house isn't massive but has 12 rooms excluding bathrooms/utility/boot room, etc.

We moved just outside London in 2015 and having been renovated it is worth less than half the value of our London house and is a third bigger with 1/2 an acre.

DH is a lawyer, I am a quasi public sector director of a large organisation.

Cleaner twice a week
Odd job man once a month
Gardeners weekly
Window cleaner
Oven cleaner
Annually at least: specialist tree trimming
Heating engineers, cleaned, security system serviced.

The real mind blower was the sheer number of light bulbs and keys. Bulbs are organised by main type and room; I had to buy a proper key box and clearly label them all: 5 external doors, windows, garage, sheds, summer house, side gate ..........

@krustykittens this is my dream! Do you have any links to something similar to yours please? When I can’t sleep I daydream about my dream home.

someone i know her parents own one of these lovely 8 bedroom country houses with lots of ground, landscaped gardens and outbuildings they own an estate agency which specialises in selling more expensive houses in our area , but now the children have all grown up and left home the house has gone up for sale and they are moving to a smaller house

Worked hard. Worked very hard. Often our daily work day would start at 5am and end at 12-1am. So 20 hr days. I grew up with my mother not eating for days. So I could. She’s still my hero and she has a house on the grounds.

We LOVE the space! Love it. It’s mostly windows. I hate dark houses. Though it’s a huge pain in the arse to clean. I love the gates. It means we’ve got privacy and we’ve got safety.

Our Morgage is in 7 figures. And not just 1!

Sorry. Saw there were more questions

What do we do? We work in IT with our own business.

AlphaDalpha · 25/07/2020 20:46

Because Worcestershire is crazy cheap! About half what it costs in the Cotswolds and essentially the same area.

OhTheRoses · 25/07/2020 20:54

Hoggle I don't swear often but fucking hell, a 7 figure mortgage Though I guess we were 6 figures in 1993 and it was part of the risk journey. Perhaps I am just old!

@blastthepast that house is very lovely - looks like the gardens and grounds are too.

Huge, beautiful country houses are fun to look at online, but I don't even fantasise about living in one. Have no desire to spend all my time managing property and paid help.
