Hello
Does anyone live in Kings Hill? What's it like? Have seen some lovely property and a google shows a very nice area, but it would be good to know if anyone has any first hand experience.
Thanks

@DistinguishedCarrot just outside Sevenoaks, lovely pub with delicious food on the green (The Chaser Inn) - worth a visit 😁.

Letsgethisshowontheroad · 22/07/2020 17:54

Oh and Vigo is V-eye-go, which is pretty too...

Sadly there is a reason why it is cheap...Sittingbourne is really not a pleasant place

LoisLittsLover · 22/07/2020 18:28

@letsgethisshowontheroad I'm not a million miles away from Sittingbourne and it definitely has its rough edges but there are also some great bits too, so it's a balance between getting much more space and what one is happy to pay. Following the opvss worries about kingshill being soulless and overly crowded, this might offer a different perspective. Might be worth a shot for some people

Stepford Wives.
Yuk

If you can afford KH, then buy in a village around this part of Kent. Never understand why people spend so much money to live here.

Oakwood Park, MAIDSTONE
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-84686516.html

This part of town has a bus route to Tonbridge. Probably hourly.

Pretty easy access to M20 for you

Trains at Barming for DH and DD to London.

Also walk to Maidstone West for trains to Tonbridge or Strood (High speed link)

And this house is rural but easy on the train line Maidstone to Tonbridge - can get to London this way too - OR head other way up the line to Strood for a link to the High Speed.

Kilnbridge Close, East Farleigh, Maidstone

If one dc is travelling to Tonbridge definitely look there- good trains to London (London Bridge, cannon Street, Charing x)- waitrose and sainsbury's right in town, lovely park, and way way nicer than Maistone!

itbemay1 · 24/07/2020 11:52

The search is still on!

Yalding looks nice, have seen a lovely house on St Marys island Chatham but a quick google says Chatham isn't great Confused going for a drive Sunday to have a look and also going to tonbridge Saturday, some lovely houses there.

Any thoughts on St Marys island?

Thanks again for all your help and comments!

Yalding floods. Regularly. If it looks to good to be true for the price that's why. Traffic builds in the village as well due to single lane bridge in the rush hour. But is very very pretty.

LoisLittsLover · 24/07/2020 12:15

@itbemay1 Saint Mary's island has a chatham postal address but it's quite separate from chatham so is nice but like Kings Hill in that itvss basically just 1 huge housing estate. Nice houses if they overlook the water though. You also can't grow food in the gardens due to the presence ofsome kind of waste

chuffedasbuttons · 24/07/2020 12:16

Not sure about St Mary's. Chatham is a very diverse town.
Rubbish commute to Tonbridge

Kent townsfolk always look down on other towns. Maidstone dislikes Chatham but Tunbridge Wells dislikes Maidstone.....

Better to ask the people who live there what they like about it otherwise everyone will say urgh don't live in Chatham - are you mad!

LoisLittsLover · 24/07/2020 12:23

Have you looked at Holborough Lakes? Not too bad to get to Snodland train station from there which can then get you to Tonbridge, and a similar set up to Saint Mary's island but more spacious and less overlooked

itbemay1 · 24/07/2020 12:25

@LoisLittsLover that's good to know thank you I did wonder if it was a smaller KH!

@chuffedasbuttons I agree about the opinion of others! Need to get chatting to some locals Smile

Thanks both

You could also try Hildenborough- good links to all the places you need, and lots of smallholding type places. And a great Indian restaurant 🤣

itbemay1 · 24/07/2020 12:39

@99point9FahrenheitDegrees the food would seal that deal Grin

Hi all just thought I'd up date you.

We decided not to put house on the market as felt the pressure too much if someone made an offer when we have no idea where we want to move to. It's unfair on the proposed buyers and I'm not sure I mess anyone around if we took ages.

We're still looking but a bit slower and now DH is trying to convince me a loft conversion would solve some of our reasons for wanting to move. Let's see!

We've already looked at some of your suggestions and are just keeping an eye open for roads in particular that we like.

Thank you all your help Smile

In addition to West Malling may be worth looking at villages adjoining Sevenoaks (pretty much out of budget) like Otford and Dunton Green as you get access to green space and facilities in Sevenoaks, they’ve both got their own stations for London and Tonbridge is a simple change at Sevenoaks. And Greenwich is c. 35 mins in the car, though likely a bit longer at rush hour.
