This is for my spare bedroom and I like the English country house look.
The walls are the cream you see there and the carpet is new.
I have to choose curtains to go with the scheme, they will be floor length and quite billowy.
Do the blue floral or the multi floral look best please?

The little bit of blue velvet would be to cover the small chair in if I use the 2nd scheme....

Out of the 2, the orangey red ones. The blue and white ones seem too light to me.

There is quite a lot going on with the rug, so
I’d
Probably
Go for
The second option.

There is a more muted rug that I could exchange mine for

Blue for me

wholelottahistory · 19/07/2020 12:56

Thanks, tending towards the blue myself.

Prefer the blue, but like the heavier coloration of the multi red one.

StarintheMorning · 19/07/2020 16:09

I have to be honest and say that I think the rug is making your life difficult, I don’t think it goes with either of the colour schemes, particularly the blue one, which would be my choice (but without the rug).

Takingontheworld · 19/07/2020 16:40

The first with a different rug. The rug is jarring against your choices.

wholelottahistory · 19/07/2020 19:08

I might get an off white wool rug instead.

An interior designer picked the rug and a colourful bedspread to go with the curtains. The walls are very large and pale, and the idea was to introduce contrasting colours.

However, her suggestion was to whitewash the floorboards and not to have wall to wall carpet, which would have made the look work. I think my carpet is a bit too beige!

I prefer the second or right hand photo

I don't think the rug works with either of the 'classic' curtain patterns you're thinking of, to be brutally honest. Either would work with your carpet, but neither works with the rug.

This ☝️

I realise there is no way to say this without sounding rude so apologies in advance but: did you pay this interior designer because white washed floor or not (which would not suit pic no1 at all) it just doesn't sit right with these options. I can't understand her thinking .

I like the English country house look.
The orange-y colours in the first picture, and in the rug, are not "English country". The lovely blue in the second picture is spot on.
You want soft, temperate colours, not scorching hot Mediterranean / tropical colours.

wholelottahistory · 20/07/2020 16:28

Blue Peter style mock ups.
No idea why it's on it side!

Forgetting the rug.

First choice I'd keep the chair covering and use the bright floral.
2nd choice, chair upholstered in blue velvet and use the blue floral.

Do disagree that english country house cant be orange and bright though- Homes and Gardens are sometimes full of ridiculous pattern combos and colours that somehow work.

That shade of blue in velvet really isn't quite right. Can you find a new interior designer? Or hit pinterest?
