Does it make it harder to repair leaks....?

What would be leaking? Get your plumbing in top top condition. We have it. It’s wonderful. But plumbing was new. I would never expect plumbing to leak. Never had this in 40 years of home ownership.

You can have electric underfloor heating. That shouldn't leak!
Only issue I can think of is if the underfloor heating is under ceramic tiles and it fails - very costly to repair or replace.
But I do like underfloor heating.

Yes to electric underfloor heating in a bathroom. I assumed leaks meant shower etc. Don’t have wet underfloor heating upstairs!

Finfintytint · 19/07/2020 10:19

We had it in a bathroom once and I absolutely loved it. So did the cat.

ProseccoSupernova · 19/07/2020 10:36

We have it in our kitchen And bathroom. Kitchen would definitely recommend, but never use it in the bathroom. We have a bath mat so your feet are never cold anyway when you get out the shower!

How big is the area you want to have the heating? If it’s not very much it may be an expensive way to heat the room. Also bathrooms can suffer with being too hot and it causing condensation etc. You might find that a good sized towel radiator is enough in most bathrooms.

BarrelOfOtters · 19/07/2020 11:21

It’s an en-suite and family bathroom. Both have 3 external walls so are cold rooms And upstairs , the current towel rails put in by previous owners don’t make for a cosy experience in winter. In winter en-suite almost unusable it’s so cold.

We are completely redoing them both. Dh thinks click together floor and radiators. He wants to be able to access pipes if the shower leaks ...he may have had a previous bad experience.

I think tiles and underfloor heating and a towel rail (poss plus radiator in en-suite;).

Definitely have underfloor heating in the bathroom. We love ours.

Tiled floor and UFH. Perfect

Rainbowshine · 19/07/2020 12:08

The tiles will need to be laid taking into account the expansion and contraction caused by the temperature changes. The click together flooring would be more flexible already so may be less fiddly for installation.

As I said before: it makes no difference what you do with the floor, heated or not, if you have leaky crappy plumbing!

Get that perfect. We’ve never had to take up a floor in a bathroom and never had a leak! Tank the floor around a shower to help with this. Make everything watertight.

Warm rooms stop condensation as long as they are ventilated. Have a heated towel rail too. You won’t regret it.

OP our shower had a detached pipe and plumber got to it from below. Patched in hole, and you’d never have known.
