I had so much support from the sellers and buyers thread I thought it would be nice to set up one for the moving in/decorating/renovating etc After the big move.

We’ve a lot to do making a 1980s custard yellow house in the country Our home and will need help 🙂

Its a slow process over here 🙄

Both carpenter + plumber cancelled so both now rebooked for next week.

Fencing company over today to quote for new garden fence.

I am attempting to find out how we overpay the mortgage online with the bank without banking with the bank alot of banks going on there

Keeps telling me to log into online banking but i cant when i dont bloody bank there Angry
Will need to call tomorrow i think.

All bills now set up also.

Im tired + ratty

Notyetthere · 30/07/2020 06:36

@bellyislikejelly that is good going setting up all the bills. I'm not looking forward to this. We are almost the same that once we move we will need to switch our mortgages to a better rate to start in January.

Current fix ends NYE and being ported. The extra borrowing is on the SVR as we wanted the two to match in timescale in January so we can't hang about too much at the higher rate for too long. Our bank doesn't do online banking but thankfully they do online switches. We could go to a broker and remortgage after the move but I really can't be fussed to do it all again with credit checks and affordability checks and all the waiting and stress that comes with it. We are eyeing up the 1.47% fee free 2yr fix to switch to in January. A few lenders might beat this but I bet the fees will wipe out the saving so we are staying. Then we will try to work out how to overpay.

We also plan to open a new virgin account in my name this time as they have great deals for new customers but not great for existing. They are the fastest fibre in our area.

We have hot water!!!!

And I’ve cleared all the weeds from the veg patch.
Not a huge amount of progress but well baby steps…

We have no hot water! The boiler has been removed to have the unbraced chimney repaired - and the braces needed haven't arrived!

We've discovered the reason behind smelly cupboards in the kitchen - food under the kick boards!

The front garden is finished just endless watering for the turf to take!

I sat on the edge of the bath yesterday to wash DD's hair and the whole thing tipped on it's side! it's not attached to the floor and an fact the glorious tartan bathroom carpet runs underneath all the bathroom fittings! I'm now dreading to see the state of the flooring underneath.

On a positive note - the front garden is done, the plants I have transplanted are growing and haven't died. The last skip went this morning!

Another weekend sorting out the old house 🙄

We have filled, painted, cleaned all the carpets + cleaned from top to bottom.

We have the window cleaner + oven cleaner booked for Wednesday.

I have booked an end of tenancy clean also but toying with cancelling it, the place looks spotless?

Back next weekend to give the garden its last going over + then fucking finally can hand the keys back on the 12th.

Will be a weight off our shoulders when its gone thats for sure.

Its giving me the hump at the moment that its taking priority over this house 😡.

Karcheer · 02/08/2020 08:55

@bellyislikejelly it’s so frustrating exerting energy on something you don’t see any benefit from, at least you can see the end now.
My parents came to the garden yesterday and we dug up some more weeds. And my mum trimmed one of the bushes and it’s perfectly round so looks great. My DH fixed the two outside taps that were leaking and started power washing the patio, it’s those little brick things and hasn’t come up much better but has gotten rid of the weeds between blocks, but now the lounge door is covered in mud!

Feeling more postive this week.

Electrician starts work here 12th.

New windows throughout are booked + will be fitted 31st.

Joiner out today will start next week - will be hanging new doors throughout, adding a stud wall to separate the living room + kitchen, building new storage into the fitted wardrobes plus new doors and boxing in the electrix switch box thingy.

Also waiting for his quote to come through to rebuild the staircase and add glass rather than spindles plus taking out the disgusting fake fire surround + adding a log burner.

This time next week the rental will be gone 🥳

We’ve a gravel driveway and today like a mad woman I’ve swept the road and got years and years of gravel off the road and back on the drive.
What’ve you all been up to?

MeMeMeYou · 09/08/2020 22:27

Have been in 6 months. We have had insulation done (roof space was v awkward so needed some help with it), fixed roof, painted one room, levelled a wobbly floor with concrete in dining room, sorting out storage and hanging photos and pictures

Next on list - monitor some suspicious water stains on a wall and ceiling to work out what’s leaking, paint some more rooms, get wood floor laid in dining room now floor is level, painting more rooms. Eventually I’d like to paint the kitchen unit doors as I can’t afford to change kitchen

MeMeMeYou · 09/08/2020 22:27

Oh also have fixed a leaky toilet and have plumber booked in to fix a problem in heating that’s stopping the furthest radiator warming up

Karcheer · 10/08/2020 16:17

@MeMeMeYou im thinking about painting ours and changing the worktop and knobs, hoping it'll look like a completely different kitchen.

Yes! I’ve seen some photos of ppl who’ve transformed their kitchens like this!

Reading this thread I feel like we haven’t done/aren’t doing much, but we’re mostly just watching and waiting for anything that comes up/goes wrong and being a bit careful with money!

bellyislikejelly · 13/08/2020 12:05

The rental has gone with full deposit to be returned 🥳

Sigh of relief this morning when we knew it was ours no more.

We have had the carpenter in all week thus far has replaced all the doors throughout + replaced the wardrobe doors in all 3 bedrooms.

Today he is building / fitting better storage in said wardrobes.

Finally feel like were getting some where.

Notyetthere · 14/09/2020 21:49

This went very quiet just a whole bunch of us were about to join. How is everybody getting on having been in their homes for a few weeks now?

We hope to exchange next week and complete shortly afterwards.

Lemonylemony · 08/10/2020 20:49

Hello graduates!!!!

Thread has gone quiet but I thought I’d just check in and see how everyone is doing? Will read and catch up. We competed 2 days ago now, and it’s all just sinking in how much we have to do to the place! Getting rewiring sorted first, we won’t be moving in yet.
