Kitchen - help

I live in a small house and hope to move one day so not a forever house. The kitchen really needs replaced and I want to do it to be happy while I'm here and have something that won't fall apart but don't want to spend a huge amount. I really am not good at designing/ planning and would rather just see something I like and go with that, rather than planning every door handle etc. I would need an 8 unit kitchen and also need to decorate and replace the hideous broken vinyl we have. Preferred budget about £5-6k A few questions (1) where is the best place for decent but cheap kitchens. Have heard good things about IKEA but it all looks a bit faffy in terms of design with too much choice. Looking for something more off shelf! Is my impression of IKEA correct or do they have nice designs you can just copy? Website isn't clear at all (2) my kitchen has tiles all over the 2 main walls and I would be happy to keep them. In nice condition and I don't fancy the cost of taking them all off and re-tiling or redecorating over a previously tiled wall! But...when I rip out the old units there will surely be a problem as the new units won't fit exactly in the same place (particularly the overhead unit as it's got a huge frame structure and I think new units wouldn't cover the whole space that is currently covered) Is there any way round re-tiling the whole place or is there something nice that could be done to use wall panelling or something to cover the untiled exposed wall, or would that look weird alongside the rest of walls which are covered in tiles. I really am not good at these things and so some advice on these things would be great. Thanks

I would get a few kitchen companies out and see what ideas they have then try to do it on the cheap, Our £1000 kitchen quote cost us £3000, we kept the existing tiles as we could still buy new so any damaged ones where easily replaced. We kept all the appliances, kitchen was one up from the basic B&Q one, still fine after 10 years.
Splash backs in glass or Stainless steel are often cheaper than tiles, personally we wouldn't tile the whole kitchen again it cost a fortune, but its still like new after 25+ years and on its second set of units.

What about Wickes? www.wickes.co.uk/kitchen/showroom

Who is doing the fitting, Howdens are okay but prices are for trades.
