House without a bath?

Looking to move and we’ve seen a house that looks lovely, good location, right number of rooms etc but all of the bathrooms only have showers. Is this a big no no? We have a dc aged 1 so use the bath a couple of times a week. Would you cope without a bath or try to squash a little one into one of the bathrooms? House is lower end of our budget so we could afford to make some changes straight away if needed. Rest of her house is nice looking on paper, we’ve not been to see it yet.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. We have a bath but is is huge, its awkward to lean over to hold / bath a small one and I hate baths. Never known DH to take a bath.

We 'bathed' dts in the sink, then got a plug for the shower and then just showered them.

The only one who has actually been washed in the bath is DDog and that is just because he cant escape.

My dc absolutely loved baths and even as an adult still prefers them. I'm a shower person but I still wouldn't buy a house with no bath, especially with young dc - bath time is one of the joys of childhood.

you just don’t get properly clean down to the pores in a shower

I just don’t find them relaxing. I get in, 10 mins later the water is cold so I spend my time topping it up constantly with hot water. I envy people who can read in the bath, I’d have to top my hot up every page Grin A hot shower on the other hand, especially when the room in cold, is bliss Smile

I've just bought a house and we refused to view any without a bath. I love a good soak as does ds. I lift heavy weights so ache a lot and a bath with salts help aching muscles. Plus my eyesight is quite bad so can't shave my legs in a shower as glasses steam up! No bath is a deal breaker for me.

CarolVordermansArse · 17/07/2020 11:17

I wouldn't want a house without a bath, neither would I want the bother of putting one in.

I also like a shower, but bath before bed and shower in the morning. We have had both in every place we have lived.

A bath is a necessity for me. I shower every day because it is quicker but still love a good bath. If it was a choice between two similar properties with and without a bath then I’d prefer the one with a bath.

emmathedilemma · 17/07/2020 11:22

It wouldn't stop me buying a house if there was space to install one but I would want one, especially with a small child.

Starbonnet123 · 17/07/2020 15:01

Don't turn your perfect house down just because it has no bath , if the house has 2 bathrooms 1 will be big enough to put a bath in if you decide you want one .
It would be like turning down the house of your dreams because you don't like the wallpaper Smile

I'd just factor it into my offer - £2k less because there's no bath"
If there physically isn't space to fit one, unless you're after a big remodelling project i''d give it a miss.

verybritishproblems · 18/07/2020 08:51

£2K less? I could deal with that. Nice price to pay for not having to clean something we never use every week 😆

daisypond · 18/07/2020 08:57

I wouldn’t consider anywhere without a bath. I’m not keen on showers.

daisypond · 18/07/2020 08:58

I’m not sure you can call it a bathroom if there’s no bath!

Mmmmycorona · 18/07/2020 09:43

I rarely bath, but we bought a property with no bath as it ticked all other boxes and just put one in when children came along.

£2k ???
How are you going to get a bathroom refitted and reconfigured and finished nicely for that ?
I'd need it to cover the full cost and then add some on for the inconvenience of needing to get it done.

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 18/07/2020 15:54

We ripped out the bath, installed a huge walk in shower and bought a hot tub. All bases covered!!

Bluntness100 · 18/07/2020 15:55

If it’s got soace for a bath and you’ve the money then just put one in.

Fine but you’d probably loose out, others won’t give a shit about no bath, I wouldn’t so you’re unlikely to get the house if competing against others.

BackforGood · 18/07/2020 16:43

Absolutely Bluntness. Depends if it is a buyers market or sellers market where you are at the time you want to buy / sell. Smile

For every "Unlikely to get the house if competing with others" area though, there will be a balance of "Unlikely to sell your house if competing with other houses on the market" area. If you've got some ftb with their cash / mortgage line up, and 6 similar houses in the roads around you going for similar prices, then it is a buyers market. In other towns there might be queues of people waiting for a house to become available in a particular road and your 'over asking price offer' would have to be immediate for you to even be considered.

bluefoxmug · 18/07/2020 16:46

I don't like baths and a house without a tub wouldn't put me off.

morefun · 18/07/2020 17:35

I like baths and have young kids, but I wouldn't be put off if there is space to fit one in. I'd have a measuring tape at the ready or ask the estate agent to take along their laser thing when showing you around.
