Comfy bath recommendations

I like to lie in a bath and read a book, as does my husband. We really like to lie back low in the water. We don't like to sit up, lots of the modern bath are too upright and we find the flat backs don't suit.
I'm 5ft 7in and hubby is 6ft 1in and both are fairly slim aka boney.
We installed a new bath 2 years ago and it is awful - I doubt we've used the bath 10 times between the 2 of us. so have decided to bite the bullet and replace it!!
There are a couple of threads here from 5 years ago but most of the links are dead and assume those bath models no longer available. Looking to spend under £500.
Unless we go for a whirlpool - btw any thoughts on those? Avoid at all costs? Wonderful?

Out of curiosity, what bath did you go for when you replaced it? We're looking at getting a new bathroom and I love to have a good lay in the bath too so would look to avoid the type you have

I know what you mean. My mum has a beautiful free-standing bath, but it's not comfortable to lie in because it's so upright. When we re-do our bathroom I'm going to get a bog-standard insert (is that the right term) bath rather than a free-standing one for this very reason (also because there's no where to put stuff - your book, glass of wine, etc - on a free-standing bath, which annoys me!)

This is the bath we are planning to replace www.tilesandbathroomsonline.co.uk/eastbrook-quantum-duo-1700-x-750-bath

I think double ended baths are a compromise - actually it's the lack of foot space that stops you lying down.
DH is over 6 foot and asked for "just a normal bath" we are putting in a classic Kaldewei Saniform (Premier inn bath) which is [[probably the most standard bath in the UK. Design hasn't changed for decades. It might look old fashioned but then it's from the days when function came before style.

Thank you NotMeNoNo I'll have a good look at these. Do you think that steel is preferable to acrylic - in spite of heat loss?

We have a bath that is wider at the shower en. (p shaped.) It is so narrow at the other end I am squished. In the year since we moved in I have used it twice.

We have a carron arc 800 wide and I find it very comfy.

If you have a good bathroom showroom near you the don't be afraid to try a few out!

springtimeinbognor · 20/07/2020 15:47

Sorry, can't help OP but ollowing with interest - we are putting in a new bathroom and I love to relax with a book and a cup of tea/glass of wine. DD wants a free standing tub (for the aesthetics - she prefers showers!). I too would love recommendations for a really comfortable one as I plan to spend lots of time in it....

Options near us are limited. One beautiful showroom but baths are mostly freestanding, modern and style over function. I am thinking of going further afield.

I bought a pretty deep and comfy bath from Grahams about 10 years ago. Just in the process of replacing with a super deep bath from the Bathstore which I'm hoping is just as nice! Though this one is not tried and tested so can't let you know if it's comfy plus it's a bit over budget

Steel will feel colder to touch with your hand but once the bath water is in it will be warm. You can always put a bit of insulation under it, tape a cylinder jacket on or something. I have had several steel baths and don't remember a particular problem with losing heat. I'm sure you could get a plastic bath the same shape though.

Have you tried a pool toy blown up as a pillow? My DM used to use one to read in the bath Smile
