Electrical rewiring quotation review

Hi
We have to rewiring done across the 3 bed semi in SW london/ Surrey. I have asked for quotation from few electricians. The first one has come through. Just wanted to check if this is in right direction. This one is beyond my budget.

Appreciate if anyone can review quote below and suggest what I should be looking and what areas need to negotiate, if any.

What should be a reasonable budget to have.

========================>
Full Rewire to include

1: Metal dual RCD consumer unit (additional £120 for better RCBO board. I’m happy to explain reasons for this again if required)

2: Earth bonding to gas and water

3: Flush mounted sockets x 19

4: Lighting to include

  • Fit only Down lights x 28
  • Pendants x 12
  • Fit only outside lights x 2
  • Flush mounted switches

5: 1st fix only flush mounted box and run Ethernet cable

6: Fit only extractor fans with isolation switches x 2 (I can give cost to supply these once I know specification)

7: Kitchen to include

  • Sockets x 10
  • Cooker x 1

8: Garage to include

  • Dedicated Armoured cable from Consumer unit
  • Surface mounted sockets x 2
  • Light and PIR sensor (I have allowed to supply the PIR but not the LED light)

9: Supply and fit mains linked with battery back up smoke/heat detectors x 3

10: Issue certificate on completion

Total : £5,750

11: Additional cost to supply down lights with GU10 500 lumen output lamps - £10 per light

VAT is to be added.

Prices include labour and materials.

I have allowed for white plastic sockets, switches, pendants etc.

I have not allowed to supply LED lights inside or outside but happy to do so at cost price.

I don’t think that’s too unreasonable. We have just rewired our house in the SE (not london), it’s a bit bigger but we have paid closer to £8k. And that was on an hourly rate invoiced for the work done (so I know exactly how long it took and we paid for the work as we went along). Best way to tell though is to get 3 quotes and see.

Flamingolingo · 15/07/2020 06:37

But the kitchen sockets: is that 10x doubles or 5x doubles making 10 sockets? We have a pretty large kitchen and have 5x doubles in the kitchen space which is more than enough

Wow! I know armoured cable is expensive but that seems extortionate!
We are in the NW but DP is an electrician with 27 years experience and he is bloody good at his job Grin

Is the house empty? DP said if empty he would charge just over £3k but it does depend on the walls/floors and whether the house is empty. Obviously labour rates in the area will be very different. I know when he was sub-contracting most of their jobs were London/SE as it was worth paying travel/accommodation for cheaper labour.

DP is an electrician and that seems reasonable for an entire house in SW London.

We had a boiler installed this week and moved approximately 2 metres. Cost over £3k. Electricians and plumbers / gas engineers are expensive trades!

But worth getting other quotes too - if you can tradesman to come round!

vivimimi · 15/07/2020 11:18

@Flamingolingo the sockets in Kitchen include the appliance connection (5) as well and the table top sockets (5).

Looks to be around a 5-6k job, could be more if you want metallic finish switches/sockets. Dont get a dual rcd board its a shit solution, make sure they use Type A rcbo's not Type AC and make sure they fit surge protection especially since you will probably end up with alot of LED lighting.

I had a full rewire for a large 3 bed semi in the West Midlands 3 years ago and that was £5k so I'd say it's reasonable.
