Separation Sale, massive ballache?

Hi, I've been trying to view a house and was told today it's a separation sale and the resident won't let anyone in to view. I know it's a sad situation and it's one of the reasons I'm trying to move, but shall I just walk away before I view it (if I ever do)? A sale has also just fallen through on it so it's just come back on. Or shall I preserve because it's ticking a lot of boxes and nothing else is atm? Thanks

The fact the sale has fallen through would make me think that the reluctant vendor has obstructed it and they’ll do it again if you get to the same stage.

Also, on a more sentimental level, I’d prefer a home that the previous owner had moved on from willingly.

I wouldn’t. We had a separation in our chain and it definitely delayed things.

If they aren’t even allowing viewings I’d be worried about getting vacant possession as well.

Do you mean they might do something to the house when they leave? Yes I get the sentiment, it's not a nice thought to find something at the expense of someone else. I suppose it depends on their motives if they're heartbroken or just want to balls things up to punish their ex. Yikes. Will keep looking.

We have just had to walk away from a house in this situation. It cost us our buyers as the purchase was delayed do much - failure to answer our solicitor questions adequately, failure to allow survey, delay at exchange point claiming unable to get removal firms.
After six months our buyers got fed up and found an alternative property.

I shan't be putting an offer in on a house if I know it's subject to divorce again. O would recommend that you walk now.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. I will keep looking as it's taken about 10 calls to arrange the one time slot the non-resident seller offered me which I couldn't do! The ea said it was very difficult for this person to access the property to arrange viewings. I would have thought better to sell than risk repossession, but it seems a big risk to proceed so I won't.

I wouldn't either. We had a house in a chain that didn't complete - after 6 months of delays and just before exchange the woman buying ours had 'changed her mind' - apparently this was the second time this had happened. From what I could gather from the estate agent she wasn't ready to move from her house, which I appreciate must be very difficult but it wasted a lot of our time and money
