If your house has been on the market for 6+ months, why do you think it hasn't sold?

Market too slow in your area?
Some issue with the house?
No buyers?
Price?

I'm looking in a property hotspot but can see several houses on the market for 6+ months where others go in a week. There are some on the market for years!

I think it's mostly price and the vendors are not in chains so won't just drop the price, but I wondered how the vendors see things.

It could be any of those things but ultimately it is always about price.

That's my feeling too unless it's a huge shooting lodge in the remote countryside which is more niche. @nomdeguerrrr
But I guess I can't see why sellers don't realise that.

I think it also depends on whether it has gone on and off the market at all. My dad's house was on the market for a year but in that time it went under offer three times but just fell through because of faults with the buyers and some bad luck.

Often it's because the seller isn't really willing to budge on price

Yeah I would agree with this too @Bells3032. Unfairly house sales can be tricky and fall through for no fault of the seller.
I think estate agents have a lot to answer for. We saw a house online recently and when we queried the higher than market price, the seller said that it was what the seller insisted on. If they hadn't put the price at that level, it would have fallen through.

Some people need to sell more than others. I guess a house is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you see a house you like that has been on the market for 6+ months, I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to negotiate a discount. But sellers are under no obligation to give you one.

I think there are a few drawbacks with some houses. Reasonable sized house with little or no garden. Tiny kitchens. Sitiuated on a very busy main road. Driveway very steep. No parking. All these things could make them harder to sell. And a lot of the good houses are very expensive.
