New plaster and mist coat

Please settle a discussion between me an DH. Is 3 days long enough to mist coat new plaster (just a skim)? It’s all the pale colour now so appears dry but DH wants to wait another week.

Well we waited a week to be sure. In this reasonable weather if it appears dry it’s probably okay. I’d do two mist coats just to be sure.

We are in the middle of re plastering and are waiting a week at least for the first mist coat. Simply because I once has to scrape of the paint in a house where the previous owners had done it wrong years before, it took forever to fix. A bit of patience is worth it.

If it helps, I asked my plaster how long he would wait, this was back when we where having very hot days in a row. He said with the weather we were having wait at least 3 days and it should be okay. So if its been raining or humid where you are I would at least wait a few more days. Just to be safe.

When we painted 4-5 days after skimming (plaster looked dry), there were darker spots bleeding through white paint. I would wait at least a week for a mist coat and then another few days for main paint.

It also depends on weather - if sunny and warm, plaster will dry quicker. If rainy and damp, then it takes longer to dry.

You can tell if it is dry just by the colour. I have mist coated new plaster which was just a ceiling skim in two days, but in other occasions had to wait a week as it took longer.
