I am just looking for renewal and don't know if it's worth getting this really.

Well it's like all insurance really, it's kind of a double edged sword, you'd always hope you'll never be in a situation where you'd have to use it but if all is well and you don't use it it's 'wasted' costs Grin

It's obviously an optional extra but it's one of the extras I personally would buy if I could afford it, as legal disputes are one of those things where you could end up losing quite a bit of money without proper advice/representation and the fees for even quite a small scale dispute (like having to take your employer to a tribunal for instance, or a neighbour dispute over a boundary) can quite quickly mount into the tens of thousands of pounds, which is beyond most people's reach...

Absolutely would. Always add it on to car insurance for e.g. it's not usually much extra

SerenityNowwwww · 09/07/2020 15:31

Is it only for residential disputes though? We are in a flat so not many boundary disagreements!

No not just boundaries/property law, it can cover all sorts of things, employment issues, problems with tradesmen, personal injury, tax, pretty much any civil law issues... but not usually family law/divorce, criminal law or anything to do with your car (which should be covered by your car insurance). Check the small print of your policy to see what exactly it does and doesn't cover and what the limits are.

We always have it. It can be really useful if you need it.

SerenityNowwwww · 09/07/2020 15:47

Ooooh - covers - personal injury, employment, the purchase of goods, or neighbourly disputes.

I used it when I took my ex-employer to a tribunal (and won!!). I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have sued had I not had this insurance to pay my costs in the event that I lost. So worth every penny, for me!

MaggieFS · 09/07/2020 15:54

As with pp, I have a former colleague who used it for an employment tribunal. Not sure she would even have been able to afford to start a case on her own, never mind take it all the way.

nicelyneurotic · 09/07/2020 18:02

I always get it. Can be used for all sorts of things and it's usually cheap to add on

Stitchhelp · 09/07/2020 18:03

I have it
Tried to use once but they concluded that not minimum 51/49 Chance of winning so declined
I continue to keep though
Cheap outlay, potential high benefit
