I am going out of my mind with new noisy neighbours Sad

We live in a 4 storey Victorian conversion, ours is on the ground floor, they are on the 1st.

Previously there was a sole tenant who was lovely and generally thoughtful about noise. Never slammed a door and was quiet as a mouse between 11 and 7.

These new neighbours are a nightmare. They stomp around their flat, have music on at top volume and have no concept of closing doors, windows, drawers etc without an almighty slam.

We don’t know their landlord other than through AGM (we own and live in our flat).

The noise is driving us to distraction. We have complained nicely to the new tenants and they are quiet for a day or so before going back to their excessively noisy ways.

I have a friend who has offered very special mates rates (I think he felt sorry for me during our last zoom call seeing how frazzled I looked although to be fair that was partly not having seen a hairbrush since lockdown! 😂) to put down soundproof carpets in neighbours flat if we can get permission from their landlord.

I know from the previous lovely tenant that the carpets are threadbare and badly need replacing.

What do you think our chances are in convincing the landlord to accept our offer?

Quite high! Saves them some money.

I do hope so.

But I’m worried that he may well say that it’s too much inconvenience to his tenants.

To be honest, I’m at the point of saying I’ll pay for it myself if it means a bit of peace and quiet!

You shouldn't have to pay for their carpets.
Are they playing music at unsociable hours? If they are then you can anonymously report them for unsociable behaviour (I did a LOT of research on this as my previous neighbours were a nightmare!) You'd swear they were walking around with bricks for slippers!

Try if you can speak to them again, just be the annoying neighbour and persevere with telling them how loud they are. Give them 3 chances and if they don't calm down leave subtle hints like a door stopper or a pair of slippers and they should get the hint.

I used to think my noisy neighbours were just ignorant but I genuinely think they were plain stupid and didn't realise how loud they were being.
I can really feel your pain because the noise starts to consume you, every time you try to relax and you hear thumping foot prints or slamming doors. It's awful.. I really hope you get it sorted soon.

My apartment was also next door to another apartments bedroom... that was a different sort of noise coming through the night which was even worse - reverted to sleeping on the couch several times as it sounded like a whale being murdered

Than you for the replies.

Yes, it is just awful coffee Sad

Just when I feel like it’s stopped and I can finally relax, there they go again stomping around and slamming drawers.

To be fair they only play music during the day. But it’s still very loud. I’m not sure I have much rebuttal about that though? Aren’t peaceful hours meant to be 11-7?
