Anyone used Hillarys for made to measure curtains?

I want to get some curtains made for the bay window in our bedroom. I was planning to use Hillarys as I know they offer a home visit and made to measure service. Anyone got experience good or bad to share?

I’m sorry if this is really annoying (I don’t have any experience with Hillary’s) but I used curtainsmadeforfree.com and am so so pleased with mine. The fabric I chose has a very complex pattern and they have matched it perfectly on the seams, and also thought carefully about the best place for the top of the curtain given the pattern on the fabric

Thanks Chelsea, that's good to know. Did they come and visit you and measure up, advise you etc? How long did you have to wait for your curtains?

We’ve just used Hillary’s (for blinds not curtains) and they were absolutely fine. Came to the house with all correct ppe and social distancing measures in place. Blinds came within two weeks of being measured so all good.
You can also order free colour swatches prior to the home visit too.

I had Hilarys blinds out last weekend and was disappointed to be honest. I asked the sales rep to quote for 4 blinds and a set of curtains. It came in at over £1000, so I asked him to take the curtains off the quote, this seemed to piss him off and his whole demeanour changed ( the salesman act fell away) and he quickly packed up his bags and left. Odd thing was, I still wanted to have a quote for just the blinds but he refused to give me one. It was really bizzare, maybe they make their money on the curtains rather than the blinds?

I had the opposite, @WitsEnd2020, I had the Hilarys man out to measure for blinds and curtains and he measured up for blinds but he suggested I get curtains elsewhere because they are available for much less than Hilarys charge. The blinds I am very pleased with and I eventually got some really nice curtains from made.com. in the sale.
So, OP my advice would be have a look around to see if you can get any ready made curtains that might fit before you get any custom
made. But, Hilarys will probably do a good job if you don't mind paying.

My friend was telling me how fabulous Hillary’s was, so I made an appointment. The quote was really high, even with their “50% sale price”. Also, the salesman was trying to convince me that a dark grey fabric would look fine in my aqua greenish bathroom. It definitely wouldn’t! That annoyed me.

I then ordered blinds from a lady recommended locally on Facebook and they’re lovely. I then saw my friend’s blinds once installed and they are nowhere near as well finished as mine (hers are quite thin) and they cost about the same.

Maybe try looking for a recommendation for a curtain maker locally.

I've fallen in love with a fabric at Hillary's and not sure if I want to splurge or not.

Watching with interest!

I got a quote from them a few years' ago and found them to be very expensive. In the end, I used two different online companies (because I liked fabrics from two different websites) and my husband fitted them. They were great (one company better quality than the other) and we saved almost £1000.

TableNiner · 06/07/2020 22:20

I had a guy round to quote once, it took about a month to chase down the quote and then it was about £3k for some basic blinds and one set of curtains. I mainly needed perfect fit blinds which ordering from other companies online cost about £100 each, all in I actually spent £650 on blinds and £300 on a pair of floor length curtains online, so much cheaper. I feel like their salespeople must vary considerably as Hillary’s get very good reviews on Trustpilot

lovelyupnorth · 06/07/2020 22:48

We had a quote a few years ago. But used a local independent guy was £1000 less for 8 blinds. Cost us just under £700 for the same blinds.

imabusybee · 06/07/2020 22:52

Blinds2go are made by the same company as Hillarys. We have their blinds and curtains throughout our house and they're fantastic quality

sunrainwind · 06/07/2020 22:52

We used them for blinds. Get the quote and then wait a couple of weeks as they discounted further both in my experience and my parents'. We are happy with them. We had a very minor problem a few months later with the mechanism and they came back the day after I called to check it out.

Very disappointing experience with today.
A representative attended my home to provide a quote for conservatory blinds, but from the moment he arrived the interaction felt cold and unprofessional. There was no greeting, no introduction, and no attempt to create a welcoming customer experience. He simply stood outside the conservatory and asked, “How can I help?”
When I politely pointed out that he had not greeted or introduced himself, he turned around and walked away from the appointment entirely.
As a customer inviting someone into my home, I expect a basic level of professionalism, courtesy, and respect. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling very uncomfortable and undervalued.
I hope the company reviews how customer-facing representatives engage with clients because first impressions matter.

I’ve used britanniarose before, good quality and good service.

CookieDeea · 08/05/2026 16:10

I’ve heard some very mixed things about Hilary’s- a friend got a quote that was frankly ridiculous, and then they wouldn’t stop hassling her afterwards. I’d look at John Lewis, who I understand offer a similar service, or look on a local facebook group for someone closer to home- not quite the same, but I found a lady who made Roman blinds via this route. She came to measure up, and the finished blind was absolutely beautifully made.

nonmerci99 · 08/05/2026 19:20

We got a quote from them and it was around four times the price of what we ended up paying for the exact same service and quality. I would never use them!

Wot23 · 09/05/2026 07:40

Hilary's are very good but as you may have noticed that comes at a very high cost. Probably more than you would pay anywhere else even for comparable quality.
Family member worked as a salesperson for them but had to quit as not converting enough quotes into sales to live off because quotes were such a high price

Credittocress · 09/05/2026 07:56

I used them and they were crap. I’d tell anyone to steer well clear. Had a really nice man come round to do the selling, and once I paid an absolute scumbag. He cancelled the initial fit date (and it was the only reason why I had gone with them), made a hell of a mess and didn’t tidy up after himself, left a crack in a wall, and left me with a pile of packaging in every room for near on 20 blinds that I then struggled to get rid of. When I contacted Hillary’s they told me not all of their fitters would get waste disposal licenses so they don’t always leave the place tidy.

Nat6999 · 10/05/2026 03:34

My mum had them & while the curtains are good quality the person who came to put them up made a right mess of putting them up because he didn't use anywhere near enough hooks in them, he also put the rail up in 2 halves which means that if the curtains go over the joint when closing them they catch so you have a battle to get them to go back (I use a grabber to lift the hooks over the joint) These curtains were by no means cheap, for one pair for a 12 foot rail & one pair of 66" × 72" plus new rails & fitting it costs over £700.
