Wood or white worktop with shaker style kitchen?

Looking to get a new kitchen. It’s an older house and will go for shaker style units, either light grey or grey/blue/sage colour. Always thought I would get oak worktops but I’m looking at a lot of pictures with white quartz worktops which are also really nice so now I’m confused, help!

We've had wood worktops before and although beautiful, they required quite a bit of work/maintenance to keep them looking good.
They are cheaper however and are less likely to date. Would the wood look better suit your home over all if it's an older house? What's the rest of your style like?

My one specification for a kitchen this time around was quartz worktops over wood- and that's what we're going for, also in a pale colour. Although not white white.

After having an oak worktop I would never have one again. Its marks easily and takes a lot of work to keep it looking nice.

I have grey shaker and white quartz, with grey bits in it. I also looked at wood first but couldn't be bothered with the maintenance and we have wood floors throughout and though it would end up a bit log cabin.

We went for a matt textured (anticato) finish for something different and less shine as the kitchen is very sunny.

Another vote for white (ish - not a fan of stark white gloss worktops) over wood. I would ruin the wood too fast so would always choose stone, although I love how wood looks.

We are having both in our new kitchen! Oak on the oven side of the room and white silestone on the sink side. I have had oak on sink side previously but it was a lot of hassle to keep looking nice. Our kitchen cabinets will be a F&B green

I went for white quartz worktops with a very dark green shaker kitchen two and a half years agao and haven't regretted it for a moment. We replaced an old kitchen with oak worktops which had gone black in many places around the sink and were looking decidedly grubby. As long as you don't leave turmeric stains on your white quartz for too long, nothing seems to stain it! Am delighted, and the white makes the kitchen look very bright and cheerful. Hopefully photo will attach...

We have walnut and it is beautiful. Gives our kitchen a really warm and natural feel. It does require a monthly oil though (which takes about 15 mins), and occasional sand but it does comes up like new. We don't mind the general upkeep but if this is something you know you wouldn't do then steer clear of wood!

I had wood once and it was beautiful but too much work, as I cook a lot. Now we have dark blue shaker and white quartz with some grey in. Very easy to maintain and everyone complements how beautiful it is (the dark blue/white combo).
