Probably wrong sub forum - secondaries I’m Suffolk that excel at pastoral care?

I know the secondaries in Suffolk aren’t great on the whole academically, and this has always put us off moving there. But lockdown has taught me that my child is not academic and so I’ve realised an academic school really wouldn’t be the best fit for him.

With that in mind my husband and I have realised a ‘good’ school with great pastoral care would probably fit him a lot better where the focus is on kindness and doing the best you can. Is anyone living in Suffolk whose child goes to a similar secondary abd could recommend?

Thank you

I'm really not sure how you have got the impression that secondaries in Suffolk are poor academically. Of course, it depends where you look, but there are plenty of outstanding schools: Debenham High (Debenham), Farlingaye (Woodbridge), Suffolk One (Ipswich), Thomas Mills (Framlingham). There are also plenty of 'Good' rated school including King Edward VI and St Benedicts (both in Bury St Edmunds). Many parts of Suffolk are very rural, and schools can often cover large areas which are very poor/deprived, as well as other more affluent areas.

It depends whereabouts in Suffolk you want to live but Sir John Leman High School in Beccles has a Good Ofsted rating but with Outstanding for “Personal development, behaviour and welfare”. It’s a nice little town to live in too, on the Broads, fairly close to Norwich in one direction and beaches in the other.

It might be worth getting this thread moved to the Secondary Education board...
