Outhouse/Summer House

Can anyone recommend a company that does a good sized Outhouse or Summer House for around £2/2500? I dont know where to start!

Am hoping it is around 15 X 10 but am very flexible with sizes. Am even wondering about sheds. Has anyone used a decent sized, windowed shed for dcs to chill out in?

Ideas welcome, thank you!

I dearly hoped this was a Tina Turner tribute thread. Your title sounds like the start of nut bush city limits.
Going to have that stuck in my head all day now.

None of this is helpful though sorry Smile

I have a 12 x 12 old fashioned summerhouse (so more like a shed than modern ones) it's fully insulated with electric lights and a calor gas heater in it and absolutely fine. Was a workshop for the previous owners, we put an insulated floor in and made it into a home office, now it's my studio escape from the house.

HowzAboutThisThen · 01/07/2020 10:09

That sounds perfect @CrotchetyQuaver, what a good place to escape! Would it be big enough for say a couple of sofas, a 4/5 large teenagers and a TV or would I need something bigger do you reckon? Trying to work out sizes

For that money you would not get much. Certainly not much more than a shed and it would not look great. As for heating, light and insulation - your budget is simply too small. They need a concrete base to sit on too.

QueenoftheIceAge · 01/07/2020 11:01

Try this company: www.tuin.co.uk/

There are plenty here that would give you enough in your budget to put a base down and get power to the building and still be within your budget.

Some friends had a cabin from here that they are living in while they renovate their farmhouse and they’ve been so impressed with it.

NotMeNoNo · 01/07/2020 12:41

I think that would be the bottom of the price range for a decent cabin kit (at least 44mm walls), then you have extras for insulation (recommended) and installation. You might pick up an ex display one?

Over lockdown we ordered a really small cabin from Tuin, just to sit in and have a chill out area at the bottom of the garden. We were really pleased with ours 🙂

Ours was from Jackson's Garden Supplies in Birmingham it's called a Denby and it's 12ft by 8ft. It's only single skin and not insulated but it was very reasonably priced (around £2200 painted and fitted). We had a local electrician put a couple of sockets in so we have a sofa, mini fridge, lamp, heater, kettle and a WiFi extender as the WiFi didn't reach from the house. I absolutely love it but would definitely recommend you go as big as you can (I wish ours was just a bit bigger).

We used ace sheds and got a 14ft x 6 ft installed fir about £2200. Needed a concrete base which cost about £1000

We've had a garden office and a kids hang out space from this company ( cheaper than moving we decided!). We've had them for over 5 years and still great. Were professionally installed but we sorted the base & electrics. www.ukgardenbuildings.co.uk/elite-garden-rooms/

@frantic17 I know this is an old thread. But I wanted to ask what you think of your Denby summer house a year on? I am close to ordering the same one from the same people...but I'm a little concerned about the uninsulated aspect. It's also not double glazed is it?

I'm wanting to buy as an extra room for the kids to hang out in as they get older. House is tiny, massive garden. But I can't afford more and I'm thinking possibly buy now and insulate myself as we go...they are probably a bit young to want to be out there on their own for long anyway. Has the lack of insulation meant things have gone mouldy?
Thanks FlowersWine

frantic17 · 05/04/2021 08:23

We've had it a few years now, it's not double glazed no. A couple of winters ago we made the mistake of locking it up in October and opening up again in March and it was covered in mildew! I now have a small convector heater on a timer and make sure it's aired and the heater clicks on low over the winter. I also put some of those crystal moisture capture things in there which help. Obviously if you spend a lot and have one fully insulated and double glazed it would be much less damp but for what we use it for (teen hangout mostly) it's fine.

goldpendant · 05/04/2021 09:23

Try also Tiger Sheds, ours is from there and we insulated/lined it ourselves. Is fab.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/04/2021 09:37

We have had a single skinned one for 3 years. In it is a pair of outdoor patio rattan sofas and coffee table.
It is not insulated or double glazed.

It is useable in any day the sun shines from late march to early November without heating as it warms up from the sun nicely.

We have had a few spots of mildew start to form if it has been unused for a while so I try to get out there every few weeks and run a heater and air things out. The patio furniture fabric means it withstands the damp q well anyway.

Oh thank you all so much! This is very helpful Easter Smile Wine

user1471530109 · 05/04/2021 11:40

Can I ask another cheeky question? What size have you got? I'd like to put a sofa, TV and at a push, a fold up pool table in an ideal world. I already have electricity going to the shed that's already there. But the current she'd doesn't look big enough for any of that (it's 10 X 8).

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/04/2021 13:13

Ours is 10 by 8. Room for 2 sofas (that fit together as a corner sofa) and a table but not much more.

frantic17 · 05/04/2021 13:28

Ours is 12 x 8 we have a home bar and mini fridge at one end, a sofa and chair at the other end. I don't think there would be room for a pool table with room enough around to play

user1471530109 · 05/04/2021 13:59

Thank you. I'm thinking 12 x 10. That's actually bigger than their rooms! Which is why the want/need for the summer house.

A2BviaCandD · 06/04/2021 11:02

We built our own. 6m x 3.6m. Cost £1800 in materials. Have a talented father in law who can build anything.
We have a projector and screen with a corner sofa the one end, a pool table in the middle and a bar, dartboard and arcade game at the other end. It has electrics, lighting and heating. My brother in law is an electrician so he did it for us.
We use it all the time, especially during lockdown. It is such a nice place to go and chill as a family.
If you know someone talented, it could be cheaper that way.
