What would you do with this kitchen?

Hi everyone, we're soon going to moving into a house with this kitchen plan - while it's modern and perfectly livable, the island does make it feel a bit small so at some point it would be nice to change things around. What sort of layout do you think would be best?

What would you do with this kitchen?

Take out the island and make the kitchen area the lhs, so more units at right angles from the top 3 x's or from the bottom wall. Have the rhs as a dining/sitting area.

What do you want from the space?
For me, I’d be tempted to get rid of the units on the right hand side and put in a dining table. Then I’d get rid of the island and either put a run of worktops (including hob) on the wall at the bottom of the picture, or put a couple of big pantry cupboards on that wall - depending on how much worktop space you have/need

Hard to say without knowing the size. If there is less than 2m either side of the island I would remove it.

Thanks - yes I think removing the island, adding units to the lower wall and removing the units to the right as it would be great to have space for a table too. The width of the whole kitchen is only 2.5 metres so definitely less than 2m either side of the island

I’m waiting on a house purchase to go through and I’m planning to have some building work done and I’ve just realised - it’ll be almost exactly the same measurements as yours!

I’m having a big window at one end (where your dining table could go) because there’s a lovely view, and planning to have worktops underneath. I don’t really need a dining table as it’s just me and the dog, but I’m toying whether to have worktops and base units, or to have no base units and some stools that go underneath - the idea being it’s seating if I need it but still usable worktop space day to day....

I would lose the island and the cabinets on the right hand side. Then I would add a small peninsula come down from the top run and form an upside down u shape. It will keep people out of your cooking area and give you room for a table at the right side of the room.
