Natural flooring?

We are looking to recarpet our living room through to a new conservatory - current carpet is 14 years old and knackered.

We can't have wooden floor as the dog is an idiot and scared of it.

Currently have about a thousand samples of carpet and natural flooring. DH really likes seagrass, but will it be a nightmare to clean? Similar questions about sisal. Cost wise it is all very similar.

Any recommendations?

How about cork? Natural, warm underfoot, and perhaps less 'scary' than wood?

We've inherited some kind of sisal/sea grass in our house. It's been here a while, and is actually about to be replaced with wood.

I'd say it's very hard wearing, but hard underfoot to walk on (there do seem to be softer options - the version in 2 of the bedrooms is much softer underfoot).

If it gets wet it's ruined - it just shreds. We had a leak so that's the main reason for replacement now.

It has quite a distinctive smell - not unpleasant, but worth bearing in mind.

I was just coming in here to say cork. I plan to do that in our new hallway. The living room, dining room, kitchen and conservatory will have a laminate which is textured to act like wooden planks, possibly Karndean.

We had oak and I wouldn't recommend if you have a dog. Our dog dropped antlers off the sofa and it damaged the floor regularly!
