Reinstating period features

Buying an Edwardian terrace but there are no remaining period features. Looking to restore it a bit - reinstating fireplaces (non-working/decorative), picture rails, tiling the hallway, replacing standard double glazing with sashes.

Has anyone done this? Is it worth it? Any pics? Love the house and definitely appreciate many of the renovated features (double glazing, utility room!) but I want my period home to look a bit more... period.

Yes, it is lots of fun. Reclamation yards and auctions are your friend. People walk into our house and comment how lovely it is we still have our period features! I'd consider a multi fuel wood burner too. Ours is amazing!

I’m currently doing it. I see it as a way of adding a beautiful basic bone structure to our house - so worth it to me.

Luckily we have original fireplaces, skirting and picture rail, so I am just adding cornice and ceiling roses etc.

George Clark’s Old House, New Home (4 on demand or whatever it is called) is a brilliant source of inspiration to get your house Functioning as a modern home, but keeping/reinstating period features.
