Bathroom to shower room, what not to do!?

I think we've finally decided what kit we want for our small bathroom to upgrade it to a shower room.

We're going for a wall-hung rimless toilet, a wall-hung basin and a digital dual rear-fed shower - the gubbins to be boxed in along one wall. Then a glass panel with shower tray for a kind of wet room look. Plus a towel radiator and extractor fan. Still looking for a long thin mirror to go over the basin...

...but I starting to wonder, what haven't I thought of? You know the things were when it's all done you go 'oh no' or 'doh, why did I chose that one'?

So what not to do? :)

ps don't say leave the bath in, that's gone!!! :D

Hi we are having our shower room gutted and modernised as I write, we have gone for big white glossy tiles shower cubicle light grey floor tiles, extractor fan in wall, no pulls cord hate them, we are having a switch next to door so can switch on there before entering, spotlight, a vanity sink floor standing cupboard underneath, taken out the rad, and will be having a curved white heated towel rail, medium size mirror on wall above sink, a high toilet as we are quite tall, fed up of these low toilets dual flush, chose things from Catologue so hope everything will look ok. Should be finished in 2 weeks

@sbplanet Ah that sounds lush! I luv rainfall showers! Great sensation!

CottonSock · 27/06/2020 18:04

I got metro tiles and apparently they cause leaks, as hard to get a good deal as not flat.

CottonSock · 27/06/2020 18:04

Good seal even...

sbplanet · 27/06/2020 19:29

Is that because metro tiles are bevelled @CottonSock? I'm leaning towards the flat 'brick' style ones with a fancy bond pattern, or plain with a bit of wave 'texture' as a band.

Have the shower controls at the entrance to the shower and not underneath the shower head. Logical really 😀

m00rfarm · 27/06/2020 19:32

Ah. See you have a digital one so my comeMent is not required!

CottonSock · 27/06/2020 19:35

Yes, the bevelled tiles. They eventually sealed them and they look great, but it was a pain in the arse.

sbplanet · 27/06/2020 19:41

@m00rfarm but for others it might be :)

@NaToth

Are you sure about letting the bath go, I mean really, really sure? We did exactly that in 2006 and have regretted it ever since.
I agree! My bathroom is lacking a bath and I really miss it.
poorbuthappy · 27/06/2020 19:51

We've just redone ours and taken the bath out. Replaced with a shower tray and a tiled seat so it's the same footprint Instead of having a glass panel we put up a stud wall so that when someone's in the shower you can still nip in and use the loo.
I had a full on sit down shower this morning due to a hangover and it was lovely. Smile

Is your wall hung basin in a vanity unit with draws? Mine is and it doesn't slide nicely and I bloody hate it. All very fresh in my mind Hmm

thenightsky · 27/06/2020 20:01

Get the biggest tiles you can. Less grout to get grubby.

Dreamersandwishers · 27/06/2020 20:11

Most of these are mentioned above but :
Shower screen coating- for easy cleaning
Under floor heating
Towel rail that works electrically as well from central heating
Night light ( my favourite was underneath the basin but that was a hotel)
Quiet fan, independent of light ( or have two lights, one of which is not connected to fan
Back lit mirror or cabinet with shaver point inside to charge toothbrushes
If you can afford it Japanese WC with built in bidet - again only used it in an hotel but wish I had seen it before I did my bathroom.
Storage. Lots of hidden storage .

sbplanet · 27/06/2020 20:20

@CottonSock not in a unit, will be wall-hung off a false wall along the wall opposite the door. Here's a plan of the old bathroom.

We will NOT miss the bath - I have not had a bath for decades and OH not had one in 15 years. :D
