Which white goods appliance brands?

ChocoTrio · 24/06/2020 16:41

Just wondered if the brand of white goods appliances matters much? Or is the 'brand' just much of a muchness?

The builders have included the appliances with my new build, but not sure about the brand they are installing - Zanussi. Are they any good? They offer guarantee on the products should anything go wrong.

My parents think AEG and/or Samsung would be better. Since it's in the builders hands there's no point changing yet, so will wait just have to until the Zanussi needs replacing.

What is everyone else's experiences with various brands? Anyone had Zanussi come with their new build or bought Zanussi independently?

Just curious - what other brands for white goods appliances do builders of other new build homes use?

Smeg.

ASChelp · 24/06/2020 16:45

Zanussi and AEG (also John Lewis brand) are made by the same manufacturer so there really shouldn’t be much of a difference.

PickAChew · 24/06/2020 16:50

Zanussi are part of the aeg Electrolux group. I've had aeg appliances in the past and found warranty work to be slow. I'd often be without a washer for 2 weeks. Gave up on them and moved over to bosch/Siemens, who respond quicker though I do have a John Lewis dryer, mostly for the longer warranty.

WombatChocolate · 24/06/2020 17:44

What about Bosch for washing machines? I fancied the Miele but don’t want to spend £800. Would a £380 Bosch washing machine be any good?

My Indesit of 10 years has died. They seem to be about £250-300 at mo.

ChocoTrio · 24/06/2020 17:48

@ASChelp and @PickAChew

Didn't realise Zanussi was part of a bigger group which included AEG. What's the difference between them then? Cheaper parts in Zanussi? Or just a quirky brand variation thing?

I live in the Italian city where Zanussi (Electrolux, Aeg) has their main factory and I know quite a few staff and factory workers.
According to them, the brand they aim to beat for quality and price range is....
Bosch.

Sgtmajormummy · 24/06/2020 17:57

Aeg is top of the range.
Zanussi and Electrolux middle range. I think the European market “recognizes” the Electrolux brand more.
I have an ex-factory Zanussi tumble dryer and it didn’t impact on my bills like I thought it would.
No complaints.

BlusteryLake · 24/06/2020 18:00

Every Zanussi product I have had has been poor quality. I go for Samsung and Miele now.

Knittedfairies · 24/06/2020 18:00

Bosch.

EggysMom · 24/06/2020 18:05

I'd like to afford Bosch. I end up buying Beko, as it's affordable.

Smallgoon · 24/06/2020 20:01

My shopping list for once kitchen is sorted looks a little like this (based on Which reviews and price):

Washing machine - Samsung *mainly because I want one that you can add to once cycle has started

Fridge Freezer (integrated) - Beko *can't believe how expensive integrated FFs are!

Dishwasher - Hisense *did very well in Which review, and super affordable

Oven - Bosch

Induction hob - Neff or AEG *haven't decided on which yet

Extractor fan - Bosch

PaolaNeri · 24/06/2020 21:25

Did our kitchen last year.

Washing machine either Bosch or Siemens. Tried a Samsung last year and it was replaced twice and on the third fault was replaced with a Siemens, no problems and I can add to the load like the Samsung.

Fridge I would get best quality you can afford especially if you have kids and it is constantly being used. The difference is much sturdier handles, shelves, drawers etc.

Freezer, I found a found a large freestanding Beko that matched my Siemens fridge but as it's kept in another room I didn't see the point in spending twice as much. Have to say been really happy with it. The quality of the handles and shelving etc are not a patch on the Siemens but it looks good and does the job.

Large induction Hob from Ikea - fantastic for £550 cheaper than the known brands for the extras it has on it.

2 Neff Hide and Slides (one steam function) love these, def get pyrolytic cleaners.

bouncydog · 24/06/2020 22:32

We have Neff for everything apart from washing machine and dryer which are AEG. Siemens, Neff and Bosch are part of the same Group with Siemens being top of the range followed by Neff and Bosch. Steer clear of Hotpoint and index it as there have been lots of issues with fires in their driers. We also had an AEG oven which was excellent. IMO look at energy rating, followed by decibels in operation. You could also get a free trial to Which or look on trustpilot for reviews.

DramaAlpaca · 24/06/2020 22:41

I have a Zanussi fridge freezer bought in 1989 for our first house and it's still going strong in my utility room, so 31 years old.

My Siemens washing machine is at least 15 years old, and I replaced an 18 year old Bosch dishwasher with another 7 years ago. I also have a Bosch tumble drier I'm very happy with. Those are the brands I will go to again.

My Neff oven is 20 years old, we've replaced the element twice in that time.

I've had a Samsung American style fridge freezer for a few years. It's OK but some parts are a bit flimsy.

babbi · 24/06/2020 22:46

Neff and Bosch for sure

PenelopePitstop49 · 24/06/2020 22:46

We've got a Zanussi dryer and dishwasher, both fab. Have recently got a Samsung washing machine and it's amazing.... and I love that you can turn the beeeeeeeeeeping off so it's silent!

We spent over £900 on a Miele dishwasher that broke down 6 times in the first 2 years we had it. I don't rate them at all. Price doesn't always mean quality.

However don't buy Samsung fridges/freezers. The plastic inside goes brittle and cracks into a million pieces within months. I hate ours with a passion and it beeps every time you dare to open the door.... loading the shopping it winds me up so much that I have to switch it off at the wall. No stopping that fucking BEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

MondeoFan · 24/06/2020 22:50

I have Samsung Add Wash washing machine. Had it 6 months it's brilliant

I have Neff oven electric and hob is gas both brilliant and 7 years old

Have Smeg fridge freezer it's brilliant had it about 8 years it's a half and half one in blue

Pleased with everything I've bought

LovingLola · 24/06/2020 22:54

Zanussi used to be really solid - my DParents had a Zanussi F/F in the mid 70s that lasted 20 years and only had to be replaced because the inner door shelf broke and milk got in and stunk . The actual appliance still worked fine .

I bought a Zanussi DW and WM which only had to be replaced because me DS broke the dials so I had no bloody idea what cycle I was putting on ( the were both well over 8 yo , it was my DS meddling that riuned them )

I have a Zanussi Electrolux cooker ( 15 years old) which I thought was a bit tinny and flimsy but its done well .
The fan isn't great now and the heating element has been replaced twice . The control knobs numbers have worn off so no-one else knows what temperature is on (it's a lucky guess for me too Grin

DH and I were saying today about a new cooker , not sure if I get another one , I'd need to see them IRL.

I had Bosch DW, WM, TD .
TD was really disappointing .
WM was an amazing huge 9kg but it started to fail after nearly 10 years though we have hard water and it was used daily .
Got a Miele now , it's ok , not worth the extra ££ really .

Neff DW - I have a fully intergrated and had a John Lewis warrantee on the old Bosch . It has the cutlery tray and a light on the base when its on . (It's the little things that make the difference )

Tolleshunt · 24/06/2020 23:01

Bosch used to be excellent, we had everything Bosch in our kitchen, and wouldn’t have anything else. But the quality has deteriorated in recent years and now things are made much more in China, and they seem to have decided they don’t want their appliances to last as long anymore. And if you need a Bosch engineer you will wait at least a week without your appliance working.

We replaced our dishwasher with Siemens and that seems good so far. I will probably replace other things with Siemens or Miele in future.

Tootletum · 24/06/2020 23:05

I have Bosch and Miele everything. Everything else is crap.

Cuddling57 · 24/06/2020 23:11

I have inherited a Neff oven in my house. I think it's old. It still works after seemingly breaking several times (including Christmas Day), it just seems to fix itself! Amazing!
I'd get Neff again for sure.

TimeWastingButFun · 24/06/2020 23:16

We've had a lot of trouble with Bosch and Zanussi. Our current fridge freezer is Samsung and the washing machine and dishwasher are Miele, and we've been happy with those, we bought a Zanussi dishwasher for our rental and it packed up after no time at all.

Tootletum · 24/06/2020 23:17

@WombatChocolate we got a basic Bosch washing machine at about £380 and the bearings went within a few years. Probably not helped by all the stones the kids stick in their pockets . I still stuck with the brand and went for the 'tough" version which is going strong after many years.
