Truly special places to live in the uk

Second vaguely hypothetical, vaguely daydreamy property pair of the evening...

Where in the UK do you think is a special, magical place to live?

I have very itchy feet and don’t know where to begin my Rightmove daydreaming!

Robin Hoods Bay

ChocoTrio · 20/06/2020 21:24

Somewhere where you can access the outdoors easily: seaside, forest, maybe a few mountains, adventure parks and generally lots of things to do lol

Hmm... maybe Bristol then? Access seaside places like Weston-Super-Mare, still a major city with lots going on, access to Wales for mountainous regions etc.

My parents moved from south Oxfordshire to Chichester, and have been very happy. West wittering etc.

Cuttinginfine · 20/06/2020 21:45

I posted on an earlier thread to say we moved to Folkestone two years ago and love it. It has everything we dreamed of and more - beautiful beaches, stunning architecture, gorgeous countryside access to London and Europe in less than an hour. Plus lots of independent wine bars and restaurants. It is perfect for us as a young family as it has lots of history, yet is very creative we always have plenty to do. However, I get the impression you aren’t thinking of somewhere quite so ‘edgy’ and more classically dreamy and chocolate box? If that’s the case then Westwell or Elham. Both stunningly archetypal (though possibly underrated) English villages in Kent. I could walk through them for hours. So idyllic...

Suffolk coast, beaches, heaths, gorgeous towns and villages, vibrant independent shops and cafes etc, magical Anglo Saxon history, incredible culture at Snape Maltings (opera on the beach!!). Longest uninhabited stretch of coast in England apparently. Wild and enchanting.

@Cuttinginfine

You have me all nostalgic now ( saltwood lass ) who moved for love about a million lifetimes ago!

lovelyupnorth · 21/06/2020 11:19

Where I live - walking, mountain biking, horse riding from the door step - multiple nature reserves close, area of outstanding national beauty, two national parks close, fantastic countryside, close to the see, close to train / motorway. City 30 minutes away if required.

lovelyupnorth · 21/06/2020 11:19

Sea.

CountFosco · 21/06/2020 11:23

Ahhhh Saltwood 😍😍. That is a special place. That must have been one special person to get you to leave there 😁 Beautiful ❤️

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 21/06/2020 12:08

Suffolk for me too, slightly inland around Bury St Edmunds. Wonderful countryside and nature.

LudaMusser · 22/06/2020 08:15

For me, some of the tiny villages deep in the Cotswolds. Absolutely gorgeous and so sleepy

Destroyedpeople · 22/06/2020 08:17

Somewhere in central London. Wouldn't bother with the picture postcard villages they are full of tory rednecks.

Lonelycrab · 22/06/2020 08:18

New Forest is pretty dreamy.

Casino218 · 22/06/2020 08:20

I grew up in Keswick in the Lake District. It used to be a magical place before hoards of tourists arrived.

1moreRep · 22/06/2020 08:26

destroyed my little rural hamlet isn't and your statement is offensive. there are good and bad people everywhere.

i love norfolk, wells next the sea
lancashire hebden bridge
cheshire, lower whitley
formby
bala wales
isle of skye

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 22/06/2020 08:30

For me it is about the people. You can live anywhere but if your relationships are not good then it does not matter

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/06/2020 08:33

Northumberland. Don't move here we like the quiet.

CherryPavlova · 22/06/2020 08:36

It rather depends what makes a place special to you.
Agree Chichester area is lovely if you pick the right village or part of the city.
Suffolk holds very happy memories for us.
We have considered South Hams as we do like the area.
Just depends what you want now and for next five years.

Bluesheep8 · 22/06/2020 08:57

Somewhere in central London. Wouldn't bother with the picture postcard villages they are full of tory rednecks.

You've visited all of them in order to reach this conclusion?

Destroyedpeople · 22/06/2020 09:05

Lol no I just like making random sweeping illiogical statements .

I have tried village life though and have been to the Weald of Kent.

Does that count?

LadyFlumpalot · 22/06/2020 09:39

The very west of Cornwall. My dream
Is to buy a parcel of land right on top of the cliff at Cape Cornwall or between Sennen and Lands End and build a lovely stone house with huge picture windows to watch the sea and the storms from.

We stayed at a holiday cottage at Cape Cornwall two years ago which is built into the cliff in a converted mine office. This was the view I woke up to...

Truly special places to live in the uk
buckeejit · 22/06/2020 09:58

@LadyFlumpalot that is gorgeous. I'd have that framed & in my office if I had one as my happy place.

I live in Northern Ireland & it's fantastic. I can be be halfway across the country in the time it took me to travel a few miles in Manchester. We have a lot of natural beauty & not that many people

LadyFlumpalot · 22/06/2020 10:02

@buckeejit - that was only a crappy iPhone photo. Here's one I took of the cliff path on my proper camera... honestly, it's the most magic place I have ever seen.

@LadyFlumpalot we visited Sennen on our wedding anniversary, it was amazing. Had an amazing walk to Lands End and then got fish and chips back at Sennen! I was pregnant with out DD but super early, so many lovely memories.
